Noob question: Mod running

Hello room, long time player (without mods) first time writer. Here's my question for the guru's: When is a good time to activate mods after installing them? Yesturday I decided to enhance my game a bit and check out some of the content modders have put ot there (the stuff ive acually gotten to work is great, so good job modders and thank you) but only some work, and some dont. Going back and looking at the descriptions on the ones that dont isnt anwsering me cause ive only been grabbing the ones that are highly endorsed and there install directions are good (if they are there) and if they require other mods to work i get the requirments, those instructions are followed on my end. i also see comments that say the same thing, "it doesnt work". So I dabbed a bit, started a new character, with the mods installed, some worked some didnt, reading on some people say they dont work till after you reach the camp for the first time, Would it be safe to say that activating these mods after you reach the camp is the best bet for a high success rate of them all working? Or am I having a weekend version of the case of the mondays? :unsure: Thank you for any adive or comments. P.S. Is the Save, exit, uncheck the mods, force load, save, check the mods, load procedure the only one? And if so where (in gameplay) do you do that to get the mods to work? Ive done it in camp a number of times, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Is there something else im not doing? Thanks again.

Ok, this is the stuff that I know of.

 

1) Uncheck All mods except chargen mods BEFORE importing the new character into the game. This includes awakening, if you have it. (unless it's a DAA character, then obviously, you cant do that....)

Start the character till you can get to a save point, save, exit. Reactivate the mods, restart from your saved game.

 

2) On previously made toons- UNINSTALL all mods except chargen mods. force load a saved game, create a clean save. exit. redinstall the mods, load clean save, cross fingers and hope they show up.

 

3) use hdhd's script thru the console for some of them. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1131

 

4) In EXTREMELY stubborn cases, with a new toon- DELETE the save folder for the character from Documents/bioware/dragon age/characters/saves

REMOVE the other character saves from that folder, and save them to a safe location like to cd, usb drive, another area of the hard drive, etc.

repeat 1) and see if they work then.

for already made characters, use this step removing all saved games, EXCEPT for the clean save that you just made on the character (It will be the folder with the highest number. Say of you have 120 slot folders, it will be the one that reads slot 120. Then do 2)

 

5) Sometimes you just have to sort thru and activate them one at a time, manually. Every now and then you just get one that throws the entire mix out of whack. Its hard to say which one tho as it can be a couple of them that just dont play well with each other, but work fine seperately.

 

 

As for when to activate them, when installing new ones, I usually play them right as soon as they are installed.

 

As for when to REactivate them, on a new character... usually right after the first save point.
