phawk69
What is thinking? Something pops into your mind and it's out into the room before you even realize it. That was a thought, but not a conscious one; whatever was said came from your subconscious, filtered through layers of learned behavior and non-verbal cues. Did you really mean to insult that gorilla? Or is it just a deep-rooted need for self destruction? Psychologists will argue both ways, and many others besides. It is true that there is a difference between honesty and brutal honesty, as Malchik said. When your girlfriend/wife/whatever asks “Do you think this dress makes me look fat?” the right answer is not “It ain’t the dress, honey.” Although that may be the first thing that comes to mind. There really is only one person we can help with brutal honesty, and of corse it is the last person we will use it on - our selves. On the other hand we could agonize so long over what we are going to say, trying to think of every possible ramification and response, that we never say anything. Is this any better or more profitable than just spewing whatever comes to mind? We all likely have our own opinion based on how we speak and think. ResidentWeevil2077
Sometimes I think about the things I'm going to say (like right now), other times, no, I don't. It really depends upon the circumstances at hand. I'll admit sometimes I just say whatever is on my mind, usually in a heated argument. Sometimes, people will throw facts to the four winds in an argument, and slug it out until one or both get hurt (or banned, in the case of these forums). So, I say it's good to think about what you're going to say, escpecially if you need to back up your argument with facts. But that is not always the case, now is it?
