Yet another copyright question

So, while spending all day trying to find ancient_laws' dragon mods on various other mod sites and foreign sites, I've come to grudgingly accept that it's illegal to upload. But that makes no sense to me, why are mods like that illegal if they're from other games when there's even a stickied thread of Final Fantasy mods? Why aren't those illegal too?

I can't tell if they are but if they are rips (Or if the author denies an upload) then they are not allowed on this site . The links in the FF-List are all custom made/from scratch...so those are 'allowed' to upload.

If you recreate a 'copy' of something from another game from scratch (newly made model, textures,etc...) then it is fine and legal.

If however, you take the ACTUAL model from the other game and use it, then it is illegal.

You cannot legally take something you have not made and use it in another game, if it is your own creation, then you can do whatever you wish with it. From what I have heard in the past Ancient_Laws 'ported' his dragons and some (if not all) of his other creature mods from other games (or one in particular, judging by the similar styles), making them work in Oblivion. this constitutes copyright infringement and is not legal.
