IbukiEcho
I'm making a mod where I want to change the gender of a character from female to male. However, when I just lowered the pitch in audacity on the voice it came out really bass-y and like you're talking with your head pushed back with a double chin.Is there a better way to get a good result in Audacity (more things I can do besides changing the pitch) or is there a good program I could use?Note that since these are files and not me talking into the mic, there are differences between 'talking into a mic and changing the sound as it passes through' and 'a pre-recorded sound file changing in a program' programs. iColour
Short answer: NoLong answer:Probably not really possible. The thing is, is there are different harmonics that separate the female voice and the male voice, so switching a voice from one gender to another is very difficult to do believably. There are some methods that could get you close, but you are going to need knowledge and money on how to do so.Using the VST plugin "The Throat" you can virtually model the throat in which the in put audio outputs. Additionally you can use the software Melodyne to further enhance this adjustment. Of course, once again it would take quite a bit of knowledge to properly model the vocals of the opposite sex, you'd need to do quite a bit of EQ work to remove some harmonics that are not natural, and just pitching down a voice moves all harmonics equally which is why you result in weird sounds, because you'll find even female voices have similar low-end harmonics to a male's voice while the female voice has more harmonics that occupy the upper register and males in the lower, but even still some of these are shared. So, if you want to try you need a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), a parametric EQ (ReaEQ is the most neutrally responsive EQ I know of that is free), The Throat VST by Antares (MSRP $99), and Melodyne by Celemony (MSRP $99 - $399).It would also help to get a good quality reverb plugin and compressor, but those are not necessary to make the sex change, it would just help the audio quality. Best of luck! edit:some quick spell checking. Edited September 13, 2014 by iColour
