Trypal7 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I was made aware that I need to download the official 1.9 patch from steam but I don't see where I can do that. I looged in to steam and looked around. Maybe I'm blind ? lol, I just bought the legendary edition and it says the game is patched with the 1.7, and I'm having problems with smoke, fire, clear water etc and was told the 1.9 would fix a few of those. Can someone please lead me by the hand to get the 1.9 patch, please :)
Werewolf1326 Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) Game patching/updates on STEAM are automatic. UNLESS! You've turned of auto updating (which is something I've never understood why anyone would do). If you have turned off auto update when you installed the steam version of Skyrim then right click on the skyrim name in your steam games window, select properties and then the updates tab. At the top use the dropdown window and select always keep this game up to date. That's all there is to it. At that point if there is an update available it will begin to download. You can monitor the progress from your library page. At the bottom you'll see a download bar. Click on it and you'll be switched to the STEAM file download page. If you still don't get the latest version then.... <shrug> contact STeam support (which sucks because their standard answer is "it's not our problem"). Edited September 12, 2014 by Werewolf1326

If that still doesn't work, you could also try verifying the game cache. To do that, right-click the game in your Steam library and click properties. From there, go to the Local Files tab and click the "Verify the integrity of the game cache" button. As for why someone would turn off automatic updates, there are several reasons to do so. I've always had it disabled for Skyrim because of mod compatibility issues, wanting to be sure that the mods that I considered absolutely essential were updated for the newest version of Skyrim before I updated the game. Turned out to be a lucky decision when the 1.9 update was released, since that update broke the MFG console command, which I use quite a lot for screenshots. Though, now that issue has been fixed through a mod.
