Altering abilities on a downloaded armor.

Recommended Posts

I downloaded some black Templar armor. It shows up fine in game, but I want to alter it's abilities. For the life of me I can't figure out how to open this armor in the toolset. I tried using the toolset to recreate the armor, but i can't figure out how to change the color either. I feel like I should be able to figure this stuff out, I modded extensively for morowind, but I just can't figure the toolset out it seems. :P

yeah, the toolset is greatly different from TESC, and the game mechanics are considerably different between the two games.

If you're wanting to do it thru toolset, you'll need to crack open the files. If its a .dazip file, you'll need to convert it .zip first. This is actually really simple, you just rename the file from .dazip to .zip and tell windows to go ahead and do it.

After that, you extract the files as a new folder. Open up the toolset, start locating the .erf files that are inside your new folder, and drag and drop (dnd) them into the toolset. Once you've got the .erf files open, you will see several .uti files.

these uti files are the files that you need to work on to change the armor stats. each uti is a piece of the armor. You'll have to right click on one, then choose extract. once extracted you can then work on it.

Tho... tbh, there's a MUCH easier way to do this, in game. Winter Forge- http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=122

For the most part, you can do almost anything on the winter forge to the armor that you could do in toolset. Just with a lot less of a learning curve. The only real difference is that it won't affect the armor every time that it loads. Just that one instance in that one savegame.

I located the uti files and extracted them (to a folder on my desktop), but that's pretty much as far as I could get. I tried dnd them back into the toolset but that resulted in a spread sheet full of numbers I don't know enough to work with. the uti files won't show up in the pallet window.

I used builder to builder load, and that finally got them to show up in the pallet window, but the toolset can't seem to find the icons, models, or textures. I can at least alter the abilities here, but I can't figure out what to do with the uti files once I alter them.

not sure about the icons and such. I've actually never looked for those so I'm not sure what file those are located in.

As for what to do with them once you have them done- My first instinct is to say that you have to recreate the module. Or create it as a new one, and include the new file along with all the old ones.

Tho there could be an easier way of doing it. Not entirely sure.
