Been a LONG time since i played Oblivion

I haven't played Oblivion is almost 2 years, been playing Fallout 3 for the last year at least and i'm getting to the point of burnout and i was looking through mods for Oblivion and got nostalgic so i wanna start a new game. I still have a ton of mods i downloaded when i used to play but what i don't wanna do is jump back into a crazy heavily modded to death gaming experience. I also don't wanna mess with overhaul mods at this time...So, what i'd like to see are some really good quality weapon mod suggestions (again, not particularly the ones that add a TON of content). I specifically like nice swords, bow and armor sets. I've been browsing the files but it's staggering how many mods there are these days and i'm hoping there's been some new popular mods come out since i last played. My play style was always light armor with blade and marksman, lots of sneak, athletics etc but i'm not opposed to playing a heavy armored blunt character if the mods are nice enough.

I had exactly the same problem when i reninstalled oblivion after a long time not playing it, all i can say at this point is..u will end up with tons of mods again, becouse there are so many of them that make this game so much more enjoyable that it will be hard not to download them. I can symphatize with you in terms of the class as i never played oblivion in any other way then the sneaking/ranger class wich is the most fun for me. I suggest u to look at Nico's mods, especially http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16204, or the best thing would be to just go to the section with armors/weapons, in organize options give "endorsements"-"descending" and see for yourself as there is so many of them, also i suggest u to try Duke Patrick's Combat Archery and http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10238 ...in the end u will probably end up browsing trough nexus for days as i did, but its defenatly worth it !

Yeah it was crazy back when i was playing it a lot...now there's like twice as many mods. I barely remember any of the modders or names of the good mods..i'm lucky i saved my favorites. I just hope i'm not too used to FO3 that i can't go back..there are definitely some things about the gameplay that i like better but i get to the point with that game where i'm simply invincible and i kill pretty much everything from such a distance that i never get injured..it turns into "deer hunter". Even when i play melee it gets old because i kill things with one sneak attack.

Sadly, u are right, i allways dreamed of some mod for oblivion wich would really made the combat mechanic's interesting not only in the hack&slash way(same with FO3), surely there are mods now but the feeling when played with them is still pretty raw. When i came to nexus at 2006 i was searching allready back there for a mod wich would made the sneaking more interesting, especially some animation mods for idle sneak, backstab's, covering in the shadow etc, i was aware animation isnt something easyly done thats why my hopes werent high. There is many gifted modders out here and seeing their progress is amazing, tough i had allways the feeling oblivion mod scene was more of a fashion one, meaning that there is so many armors/clothing mods to get, eyecandy mods to make oblivion look better etc. I was wery happy when animation mods started to be released, becouse playng a beutifull elf is nice, but when she moved it was horrible, i mean ppl care alot about the eyecandy but the game mechanics are somewhat staggering down and if ur character moves like a robot etc. even tough he/she looks great it kills the overall feel, sadly even tough there are many animation mods now i wasnt able to find the one i was hoping for.

I played FO3 also for some time, but i have to say in the end i allways came back to oblivion, even when playng other games i allways ended up back here. I could say it was becouse of the hope for the immersive mods, gameplay mechanics i was dreaming and still dream for, who knows what the future will bring, but im looking forward to it :)

I was in your exact situation a week or so ago. Played Fallout 3, got bored, wanted back in with Oblivion.

If you haven't downloaded Kyoma's journal, that's the mod that did it for me. I feel like I'm playing a new game with it. There's nothing more immerse than narrating your character.

I also agree with the above poster. FO3 can't compare to Oblivion. It wasn't for lack of gameplay, but Oblivion was just more... open. Fantastic. You never really did see everything, you can keep exploring new places. With Fallout 3, once you've seen one part of the wasteland, you've seen it all. Plus, it's really over, after the Game Over, the world's sort of dead. Oblivion feels more alive and vibrant.

So yeah, download that journal if you haven't. That's the key mod for me when playing the game again.
