martinthemage
Does anyone remember The Settlers? That pixel that resembled a sword? The soldiers that take turns to swing their weapon's at each other and miss? The sound of pigs grunting in the slaughterhouse? What do you think of the squares of color that made up The Settlers II? I once completed 9 missions, and lost all of my saves  How far did everyone else get?

I suspect it will run best in DosBOX or similar Dos emulator. I've installed Win7 32-bit instead of 64-bit because there isn't a 64-bit version of Creative ALchemy to re-enable hardware accellerated audio on Audigy cards in games that use DirectSound3D. I've loved playing the Settlers games so much that I own two copies of Settlers 3 so that I can legally play it multiplayer!
wikkid1
oh man, i remember that game. and occasionally i still fire up one of the series' games. the first 4 games in the series were great, the 5th was a bit of a disappointment, the 6th was interesting as it implemented and improved a bunch of features, and the latest one probably wont run on my machine :( although i didnt even try the latest one after i read a few of the reviews for it. those games should be split into 2 categories, games 1-4 and 5-7(7 right now, may be more eventually) because starting the 5th game they added a main hero character, and it felt like they also really simplified the game. basically it became another warcraft/starcraft clone. just as an example for those familiar with older games, you no longer have to assign settler specializations (carrier, digger, etc,) nor do you need to build housing because apparently all your settlers live in their places of employment. to sum it up (this is inadvertently turned into a series review or something) the later games (5-7) are very different from the early ones, almost to a point where i want to say that newer ones shouldnt even be called settlers. phforNZ
Ah, good ol' settlers. There's a game series that has stolen a lot of my life :P (second only to the Civ series). #2 was fun. Doesn't beat the first one though (especially on the old Amiga 600 - split-screen multiplayer with dual mouse support - hell yeah!). And I have to agree with wikkid1 - the latest lot really can't call themselves "Settlers".
