Having reinstalled Toolset, I cannot connect to the database...

Recommended Posts

Even though it was fixed and running fine last night ( I made multiple items)...

This morning when I went to open toolcrap, it gave me the same cannot connect to database error message...

Do I have to do the SAME thing as I did last time? What guarantee do I have that this will not happen again?

Repeat steps 10 - 13 from Toolset Picture Fix Guide.

Run "ConfigureToolset.exe" and test your connection: Link

Lets see what happens...

So I need to uninstall and reinstall SQL? again?!

I am probably just stupid but I found that picture guide confusing...

No,just run SQL Server Management Studio Express, choose your database again (step 11-12) and press connect(13).Then run ConfigureToolset.exe, click next, uncheck "use the default database",press ... box, make sure everything is like on Datalink properties image (link above), then test your connection. If you get "successful" message, run your toolset with administrative rights.

Bro, I am by no means chastising you, but man... you gotta stop having your issues spread out over so many threads.

I'm really starting to wonder if it's your computer. In particular, it's shutdown. Windows has an issue where if winblows doesnt shut down correctly, it can corrupt or lose information. I'm wondering if your machine isnt shutting down correctly, and is corrupting the database information.

This usually happens when your system doesnt have enough RAM left to fully intiallize the closing of all the things running, or a program "hangs" during the shutdown. (a friend of mine's printer software did that, and was causing her all kinds of grief).

IF you try reinstalling it again, try this. Uninstall it, shut the computer down. Boot back up, reinstall it. Once the reinstall is finished, test it to see if it connects. If so, close it. go into program manager (crtl + alt + del keys all at once) and shut down any and all running processes that you can recognize. Especially scanner/printer software, firewalls, that accursed A/V of yours, Any media player softwares, daemon tools, any and all of it that you can recognize EXCEPT for Explorer.exe or taskmanager.exe (If you close either of those, you can crash).

Then shut down the system again.

Let the system sit for about 30 seconds, then fire it up again. See if it has any issues with the toolsh!t.

This problem your having.... the toolset is a piece of crap, yes. But this just isnt normal.
