I have a thought

Was just browsing through the nexus sites as I do from time to time, and took a little more notice of the censorship of the image share section. Can't really see a good reason why. It ran the way it did for years no ? Why now ? Only thing that is logical to assume is that some of the advertisers, or people who are linked through the "buy through us" didn't like the pornographic/objectionable content. So it was immediately changed.

It's not that I come here to view pornographic content (heh, there is plenty of it out there on the grand ol internet for me to explore and enjoy afterall, to make coming here for that impractical and non-sensical), or wanton depictions of violence/torture/murder/gore etc. (there are plenty of sites out there for that too) it's just the censorship itself that bothers me.

These sites seemed to me to have a "don't give a rat's ass what people think" attitude to it for awhile, and I loved that (never understood censoring the forums of a privately owned and operated website for language though; most especially for games that are rated M in the first place, but that's another thought, for another time).

I guess what my random thought boils down to is this:

Let's hope this isn't an early indicator for further censorship of the site. Removing adult themed mods (nudity, sex, violence, gore, etc.) being the biggest one I suppose. Even making them for premium members only would be really bad. Having that almost 100% liberal attitude towards content is one of the biggest draws of this site IMO. It's why these thrive and others don't.

Anyway, that's the gist of it. Take it for what it is.

Could just be me, but have you turned of the Adult Filter? Cause there's still alot of nudity, violence, gore and all of such. As for the language in the forums, I completely agree with the staff to this. A little politeness goes along way :P

There are ofcourse other things, but as far as I understand, this site has Bethesda's support, making some matters official. And I, or we, can't discuss just anything, as there is still such a thing as the banhammer :P lol

Not sure what all the reasons are, but I assume they have their reasons.

Happy modding to all :P

Also, remember that we're talking about pornographic content, not necessarily just nude. The imageshare section hasn't changed too much.

Of course, such content is still allowed in the Supporter section; becoming a supporter doesn't cost a whole lot. The fee is pretty much just a way of proving that you are of adult age. Not a completely foolproof way, but a lot more efficient than it was before.

Note I said Supporter, not Premium.

Though, premium doesn't cost that much either... :P

And... How does it prove that you're of adult age? I'm not, still I am a premium user...^^

It isn't a matter of censorship, it's a matter of encouraging some more variety in image uploads. For quite awhile now the image upload section has been filled with little more than hundreds of topless women in various poses, using the same 6 or 7 body mods (and minor variations). Due to the obviously sexual nature of these images, it was clear that these images were not uploaded for any purpose other than fapping material. At some point the art of nudity is no longer art. Although this point is subjective, many cases over the years have been decidedly beyond that point. The decision was made to reduce the number of needlessly explicit images in the image (porn) share section and as a result, allow people with other artistic interests to be free from being choked out by the constant stream of tit shots.

It's not censorship, it's encouraging diversity.

Of course ;)

Indeed. I wasen't advocating blantant uses of cursing or anything, just that it's there at all. Should be able to easily have adult conversations and let a few swear words fly here and there if you want to.

Really ? That I didn't know, and is reasonable to assume if it's true. But then again, around for years and all.

It's not censorship, it's encouraging diversity.

Ah. Well I can see that. Like I said, not really a big deal to me to not see nudity/pornography here, it was just the idea of blocking it in general. Hope it doesen't happen anyware else. The images are one thing, the mods are another.

It's funny, I was thinking of Morrigan and then I saw that. :teehee:

I disagree with you Vagrant0. If something is forbidden, not allowed - it's censorship.

It's very questionable to use the word "encourage" in connection with clear interdictions.

Apart of this; what words ever you use to give the impression of a nice touch for the prohibitions

and to say it's encouragement - at the end it is censorship cause we have no choice.

Incidentally, whether one considers it just or not, on a privately owned forum, the rules can be whichever ones the owner wants them to be. In theory he could ban people for spelling and grammatical errors or because he personally thinks a poster is stupid. He could create a post limit and ban people for exceeding that limit. His forum, his rules. I am not saying he would but the owner of something can dictate how that something is to be used. He is much like an absolute monarch and the moderators are the magnates enforcing his edicts. The rules themselves are inconstestable so a post such as this is without purpose. That is my take at least.

It is by definition censorship but it doesn't matter. The rules here must be obeyed.
