azron
So after trying everything I could to get it to load properly, here I am, sadly there are so many things that can cause Fallout 3, the most unstable game of the decade, to crash, even unmodded from a fresh install, I feel like I'm really taking a shot in the dark by posting the problem here. So I got Fallout 3 near the time of it's release, and have always had minor instability issues, but nothing catastrophic. that was until yesterday, I had just modded a new weapon (nothing more than a Tesla Cannon that does 20x more damage and of course has 20x more condition to compensate, than the standard one, though it is also the WMK scope/extendedmag/laser sight variant) Suddenly Fallout 3 wouldn't load the menu screen, it would load the slide but not the interface, restarts of the game would only result in it locking up earlier, forcing me to alt/tab and end process using task manager. I cleaned up my registry, did full virus and spyware/adware scans, and even cleared 90% of my save files (i had over 400 at the time) finally I just decided to play it vanilla rather than using FOMM. No change, so I decided to backup all my mods and other files and reinstall the game, surely that would make it work right? Sure enough, it made things WORSE, well, I dunno, at least this time I don't have to bother with alt/tab and task manager... I erased everything I had modified and put it in the backup folder, so it cannot be anything that I modded in or left over from that. still crashes. I'm using a Pentium IV with a 3 GHZ processor, 1.5 gigs of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 4650, I have a full terabyte of free hard drive space and I am running Windows XP with service pack 3 I really hate to think I might have to reformat/repartition my hard drive in order to continue playing this game, especially since I'm starting to wonder if even THAT will help. WastelandAssassin
wow, this is probably the worst case of Fallout problems i have heard of so farhave you, per chance, changed something from the original game, that could cause such problems?first of all, i think you should never load the game without FOMM, it could cause problemssecondly, make sure that you are only loading the original game, and nothing moreif it doesn't help at all, i can give you the old grannys cure, FO3Edittry using it's functions to see if there is a conflict or problemif all these don't work, than i guess the problem is either your PC, or the game itselfi hope any of these work out for you, and i wish you luck with getting your game back up and running
