Eotyrannus
Hi guys, just asking for some help. Hope this is 'enough to do something with'. I've been trying to mod my game (Long War installer and PatcherGUI), but all attempts have been met with failure. With PatcherGUI, I (IIRC) used 'Enable INI loading' and 'Disable phoning home'. With Long War installer, I made sure it was the right folder and then let it do its installation. I've used clean XCOM saves for both types before. However, the game has always frozen at some point (usually somewhere around choosing new game, but once freezing at the spinny-XCOM-logo load screen and a few times getting into the game proper and freezing at the 'SAVING' spinny-logo thing). I've been using the latest update for both Long War and XCOM: Enemy Within. Both the installer and modding tool are in a folder within Documents, and so is Steam. Is this a common/previously-encountered problem? If so, is there a way to fix it with general reinstalling/moving files/doing something simple, or something a bit harder, or is it more trouble than it's worth? Thanks in advance. :)
Eotyrannus
Double-post to update the situation. Okay, I went offline, and it seems to be working now. (It got past the 'Saving' pop-up in the first mission of Long War.) Is there any way to make it so I can play it online too?
dubiousintent
Not at the moment, but keep an eye on the "XCOM File Discussions" section, which is where the Long War team provides support. If they can do anything about it, it will probably be in the next beta. Note that "Documents" is a special case of "protected" folders. Because you as the "owner" can make changes to it's contents you will probably not have any problems. But "others" can't unless you change the permissions (not recommended in general), so there is a possibility it might cause problems. Moving Steam to a completely different "C:\Games" (or similar) folder is still recommended, just not as strongly in this case. -Dubious-
