Mad World: RPG Sign-up...

First of all, I'd like to preface myself by saying that this is for people interested in telling a story, not in people interested in mindless action.

 

Also, this is the first RPG I've seen on this site to deal with something other than Morrowind. Calm down, and take a few deep breaths. It's okay... We can make it through this. Change is good.

 

There are only human characters, and these characters don't have any special powers. They can't cast spells. They can't take on the enemy hordes. They haven't even ever seen the enemy hordes. They are very special, though, in that they have something most RPG characters lack: Depth, personality, and a soul of sorts; a soul you breath life into, a personality you lovingly craft, and a depth you create through telling of their everyday lives. The characters will interact, will mingle, and will tell the tale of humanity.

 

The possibilities are limitless. Once the character is created, you can live through the character at will. Will he be a brawling drunkard? Will she? Will he be a simple family man? Will she be a Wall Street lawyer, fresh out of Yale and struggling with student loans? Will he be a philisophical janitor, who's only mistake was not going to college? Will she be a lonely junkie? There are no limitations, save for a simple set of rules, which are these:

 

1. Each character must interact with at least one other character frequently.

2. Each person controls only one character and any number of NPC's.

3. I am the one who decides in which direction the character's entwined fates head; you make the road they will take, and the story they follow.

4. Serious writers only, please.

5. Follow the general rules Death Penalty and I made.

6. Use your imagination.

 

"But, how can this be an RPG without a defined ending? Without a cast of evil minions? Without fighting? Without adventurers" You ask. I never said this could not be. The ending is up to you... I merely decide the direction. The evil minions could be a mafia family. There could, indeed, be a lot of fighting; but not so much that it makes us forget the human aspect of the story. Finally, all of us are adventurers in life, just trying to make our way through the world, and maybe find some treasure at the same time.

 

I'll post my character intro in a bit. Meanwhile, I'd like some feedback on the idea, so I know whether it'll sink or swim.

The RPG is set in a city about the size of New York, with all the character of that city. More will come in the actual RPG.

Description: Zac is a Russian immigrant. He has grey eyes, with a yellow ring around the pupils. He wears flexon half-rimmed glasses, and is in and out of work over longish periods of time. Living day to day, he has a love for life, and enjoys leaving people with more questions than they had before he met them. He wears whatever he wants, and keeps odd hours, often waking in the afternoon and going to sleep in the late morning. He has a low-rent studio apartment near the industrial part of town, but rarely stays there unless working on art. He has some money in the bank, not much, but enough to sustain his low-cost type of lifestyle until he gets a job and can put back in the bank what he used.

 

Wish List: More money, freedom to live the way he wants, and less people living in the traditional white-conservative christian way.

Description: Gomer was raised out in the back hills of some hick town. Lacks any formal qualification but is quite adept in making homemade weapons/explsoives. Drives a beat up White Van with a crudley painted logo stating "Pestz 'R' Uz". Gomer lives in a old run down house on the outskirts of the industrial sector. Has no friends and tends to keep to himself. He can been seen always with a red checked shirt, jeans and some overalls on. Has dirty/greasy hair. It is a bowl cutt style. Is paranoid about authorites <bad experiance with the ATF a few years back> so tends to steer clear of them as much as he can. On top of his resonible succesful Pest Control bussines; it is knowen to the local underground that if you need some hardware to give gomer a call. In short a man of few words and actions but when he warms to a person he is thier best friend when they need it.

 

Wish List: an insider in the local authorites who could pass on information about weapons/chemical movements. Also the new "Pest killa 20000". Has extra napalm roasting feature.

Description: Mike is your every day guy. He wakes up, reads the paper, goes to work, comes home, then he changes. He will sit in front of his computer making up codes, trying to hack into a security system he made to hone his skills. His biggest accomplishment as a hacker was breaking into a low level CIA computer. His eyes are grey, he has dusty hair. He is known on the internet as Nora. His income as an engineer is somewhere around 65k a year, but he gets another income by tapping into bank accounts.

 

Wish List: More Money, A better computer, a bigger apartment.

Description: Chris is by no means a happy person. Day and night he is surrounded by the dead and he likes it this way. People tend to get on his nerves when they are alive. At night he will stay with the dead and talk to them and during the day he goes about his normal business. He always wears a black suit and hat and he has thin rimmed glasses. His parents died when he was very young and when he was 12 he was charged with attempted murder and charged as a juvenile. He has no religion and no dreams or hopes of achievment but sometimes feels as if life could be better...
