stebbinsd
Does it really make sense that the Imperial Legion and Penitus Occulotus would have such mundane gear? The city guards, I can sort of understand; holds likely don't have as great a budget as the entire empire. But the Emperor, on the other hand... is there any reason why he wouldn't equip his bodyguards with the best of the best gear? The Imperial Legion should also have some enchanted gear, as well! The Stormcloaks could presumably get their enchanted gear from the College of Winterhold, so long as Winterhold stays under the rule of Jarl Korir. The standard enchanted gear could be viewed as thus: Melee weapon: Fire/frost/shock damage. Bow: Soul trap (as long as they don't carry around black soul gems, unethically trapping the souls of enemy soldiers shouldn't be problematic). They would carry petty and lesser soul gems, with the implication being that they kill wild game, both for food, and to keep their weapons charged. Shield (if equipped): Fortify block. Helmet: Fortify Archery Chest: Fortify Health Gauntlets: Fortify One/Two-Handed (depending on which melee weapon that particular soldier has). Boots: Fortify Stamina Ring: Resist one of three elements (if they're a Nord, they won't be eligible for Resist Frost. The implication will be that, since they already have a powerful frost resistence anyway, they should instead use this slot to provide a resistence to something else). Amulet: An amulet of the divines (only the Stormcloaks will be eligible for an Amulet of Talos). This would make the civil war/Helgen battles significantly more challenging, as well as providing valuable gear at the beginning of the game (both to fight with, and as vendor fodder).
