I'm thinking of like Kitty Pride's pet dragon Lockheed in X-Men. A dragon about cat sized that will follow you around and perhaps occasionally perch on your shoulder. ETA: I did find several, but it seems like getting small dragons to fly close to the ground, rather than way up in the clouds, appears to be quite complex, and most just walk around very slowly, which isn't quite what i was looking for.
