You could jump across a narrow chasm by pushing off hard and making a primarily horizontal jump (a long jump). You could use this to get over a fence from the top of a building, or to give enemies chasing you downhill a run for their money by jumping over a car. I think it could really add a nice dynamic to the pc's movement abilities. I'm not really sure how it could be implemented though. I'd say it would be activated by holding a hotkey and jumping, or pressing an alternative jump key, while running. But I don't know how to make a jump less vertical and more horizontal.
