Cactusgod
Hey Guys, I have a crapton of mods installed, FCOM + a bunch of other stuff, everythings working out fine. I was curious to know how exactly loot lists work. For instance, I was going into an NPC's dungeon hideout and I found an interesting item that had been placed on a shelf. It was lying out in the open, not in a container. My question is...will that item be in that same spot every game? The item is a part of OOO, so its definitely not from the base game (which means, to me, that it was randomly placed there) I'm just not entirely sure whats random and whats not. I'm assuming that all of the containers have random loot lists, but I'm not positive, nor am I positive about items lying out in the open. Basically, I'm hoping that not only will a new game require me to open up all the containers I see but a random loot list of items NOT in containers will mean that I also need to keep checking shelves and things of that nature. At any rate, I'm rambling...if anyone has any insight I'd really appreciate it! Thanks
David Brasher
In general, it is only the items that are in containers that are part of the leveled lists and that are respawnable. Loose items that you see laying around tend to only be there once, and then never again. There are ways around this, so that loose items can respawn, but some of them are difficult or time-consuming to mod. Loose items are almost never part of a faux leveled list, because that gets really complicated. So in most most mods and in the vanilla game, you will just expect the containers to respawn and little else to.

Thanks...so, one more thing; Each time I start the game brand new, new character, will the same items be available, loose, where they were in the game before it or is that random placement at the beginning? David Brasher
The easiest way to make a mod is to have the loose items always be exactly the same items and be in exactly the same place. (Unless an actor bumps into them and they get moved a bit.) So every time you start a new character, or deactivate and reactivate a mod after a clean save, the item will be in its spot again.
