100% Chameleon

Well it happened by chance that I have found items that give me this (except for an amulet I enchanted myself). (Ring of Khajiit 35, Hands of Midnight 10, Spy Cuirass 20, Grand Ring of Shadows 20, and my own hiding amulet 20). But where's the fun? I enter a room with four faded wraiths and they do not see me. I kill them one after the other and they do not fight back. Hmm!

Are there any creatures in game that can detect and attack me? If not, I can see how to play the game at 100% difficulty once I survive the tutorial and the mages guild recommendation quests.

However somehow it doesn't seem to add to the experience, merely make it all seem rather pointless. What do others feel about it and perhaps equivalent 100% enchantments such as reflect damage and spells?

There are some flaws in the magic system of The Elder Scrolls series. Foremost is that it is rather boring, but that is a pet peeve for another post. I'm playing a Breton, which gives me 50% magic resistance (already quite damn powerful), and I found a ring which gives me 50% magic resistance (as well as 35% reflect magic or something). Which means: I put on the ring, and I'm completely immune to all magic; screw you, every wizard in the game. It's ridiculous and very boring. The ring is the most powerful magic item I have, yet I never use it, because it's so unbalancing.

To make it worse, I've got the Escutcheon of Chorrol (shield), which gives 35% reflect damage (even when I'm not blocking with it, or am indeed using a two-handed weapon. Yes, the shield can still be equipped, it just doesn't show up, but still gives you all magic boni) and a ring which gives 33% reflect damage. Combine this with my amulet of 20% reflect spell and voila: 100% resist magic, 55% reflect magic and 68% reflect damage, jeeze. No magic thrown at me will affect me and more than half of the time, it'll bounce back at whoever threw it, and if they try physical violence, they get more than two-thirds of the damage smack in their own face. It's cool to be able to build up an aweseome arsenal of arcane artifacts, but there should be some limits... for example, if the effects weren't cumulative.

Anyways, there's a mod out for rebalancing chameleon, you might wanna have a look at it

There may be some combinations of reflect damage, reflect magicka, and chameleon that will allow people to play at 100% difficulty and still have fun. Time will tell.

Last month, many were complaining that Oblivion was way too tough. It was hard at 50% difficulty. The difficulty slider was broken and Bethesda sucked.

Once they have 100% reflect damage or 100% chameleon, the same people will be complaining that Oblivion is too easy. The difficulty slider is broken and Bethesda sucks.

;D

Well, it is impossible to please everyone. I did and do complain but not at it being too tough. My gripe is that at higher levels the opportunity for enjoying the scenery without constant battles disappears. I prefer tough battles in quests and dungeons where strategy is important but fewer rather than more encounters when walking around in the country. (I get fed up with all those boring cliff racers in MW). I don't use the 100% chameleon for the simple reason that there is no challenge. I feel atm (level 15) I have it about right on average difficulty. I can survive most encounters but some still give me a hairy moment or two (four minotaurs at once for instance). I still do not find the game anything like as involving as MW but that is only my opinion.

I suppose the opportunity existed in MW but I found most of the items in Oblivion at level 13 or so. It still feels like cheating to use them. I don't think you could 'find' items in MW that gave 100% chameleon or reflect.

**Have you tried one of the mods that makes High-Level Equipment more rare? I am at Level 26 now and since using that mod I have not found a whole lot of great equipment...Most of what I have is from completing quests, and I have my Glass Longsword I got when I was like at level 7 or something(not sure where I got it from). I too am a little diheartened by the cumulative magic effects and will look to "fix" this...

You want a great fix to cumulative magic effects from enchantments? Try Oscuro's. The only magic item I've ever found was a dwarven claymore enchanted with weapon disintergation. Everything else has been vanilla, and I've made it to level 21.

only problem with the magic system is that it makes the game become way to easy, i made armor that gave me 100% reflect damage and spell and armor that gave me 1000% camelion. once you have armor like that the challenge is gone. Even with the difficulty meter set to maximum, with armor like this you basicalty a immortal who cant be defeated and/or hurt. That just takes the fun out of things.

I take the point about the mods but it is a pity that mods are needed from the beginning. I played MW several times before I started to use mods. I intend to finish one unmodded game in Oblivion too but there is more of a sense of duty than enjoyment. Still it is only 5 daedric and 7 Master trainer quests I have left. So I'll plough on. Then I'll look around for mods to make the game more fun. And go back to building interiors for Iredior.
