Extremely low performance

First off, hello and thanks to all people who make this site what it is, I only found this site this week and already fell in love with your work :)

However, I am unable to try it out yet :/

I upgraded my machine recently and thought I´d try Oblivion without Oldblivion for the first time, but the game is unplayably slow, regardless of whatever settings I try. I tried running the game with no mods, just patched with the official patches and on settings as low as 640*480 sans AA, but nothing changed. Initial video is stable at 30 fps, but as soon as I get to character creation, FPS drop to 5 and stay there. Also, upon first run, Oblivion suggested low graphics settings.

I am running Unreal Tournament 3 maxed with no problem, drivers are up-to-date (tried disabling CCC) and I tried pretty much everything that I found on the internet in the last three days that I was trying to run the game (mostly editing the .ini in different ways)

If anyone could tip me off about the cause, I´d be most grateful :)

Thanks
