AltreU
After reinstalling my game for the billionth time ever, I had around 40-something mods installed and numerous other texture and mesh variations. Then, out of the blue, various parts of SM stopped working. I noticed, after settling into the game, that my basic "fireball" spell (the default one) stopped doing sneak damage. I thought the game was having a minor fit, but then I checked the console and nothing of the Supreme Magicka sort popped up. The spells are still there, I can use levitation, poison, and other scripted spells, but some things weren't normal. Spells went slower (I keep the speed set around 3000-4000), conjurations lost their "membrane", and telepathy spells lost some function. I checked the ini and it was fine. I even deleted and reinstalled it. Due to the fact that I cannot and will not play without Supreme Magicka, I have to ask, has this happed to anyone else and do you have a remedy? Btw, I've reinstalled the game. Yay, more hours of my life installing than playing (I've had the game for 2 years....)!

Heh heh yes i too feel alot of times i spend more time reinstalling the game then playing. Yes what your mentioning seems to happen alot with mods like overhauls that add alot of changes pushing the engine to do things it wasnt originally designed for. Things like ai overload where npcs stop reacting or do odd things or weapon damage that isnt properly calculated so it ends up registering after two or more hits later. Weapons or spells that dont hit their target eventhough they're right in front of you due to a invisible mesh getting in the way somehow etc. At the moment after two installs in a row i just said forget this for awhile and am playing OBLIVION with no mods even smaller individual ones which usually dont give me any trouble. I've noticed suddenly Bethesda's design wasnt bad after all and alot more realisitc then i thought it was. It feels good to take down an enemy with only one or three arrow hits and its also a comfortable feeling knowing the damage done is correct and didnt somehow stop working due to some glitchy mod behaviour which after all these years should have been fixed by now. So your not the only one in your suffering and love for mods. You can always go back to regular OBLIVION and check out the great official mods like the SPELL TOMES and WIZARDS TOWER which adds alot of great new magic spells and vendors etc. Other then that all i can say is reinstall SUPREME MAGIKA whenever it gets glitchy which usually resets things and fixes the problem. Hope my words have hoped to lower the frustration level a bit
AltreU
It's good to hear from someone who even plays.... none of my friends are too interested in Oblivion (well, they like to watch me play). I've got one actually, but he's stuck in Germany due to some, uh, "inappropriate military activity". I've got all of the official content, but I've played out all of it too much. I've explored every vanilla variation of gameplay that interested me, so I NEED mods. I actually didn't have any overhauls installed. The last installation, I just wanted small mods because some overhauls had been tricky to keep up with. All of the ones I had were individual modules and shouldn't have had an impact on SM. Well, I wish they didn't. Pretty much, the ini for SM didn't want to initialize. This was evident by:1. The message never showed up.2. The scripted spells worked, proving it wasn't OBSE acting up, but things only the ini affected didn't work (such as lower magicka costs, faster spells, conjuration issues).3. Most of all, my "Oh no, my magic isn't supreme" senses were tingling. None of the other symptoms where there, such as strange meshing or textures. Took few days to get those to my preference (nice boobs, manly men, more stylish people in general). Normal combat was...normal. But the spell. THE SPELLS. Have to have 'em. I usually play a good mix of everything, marksman for outdoor assassinations, fighter for hordes of foes, mage for the useful spells and mid ranged combat when arrows wouldn't make sense, and rogue for a little fun sneakiness. Even monk for one-on-one. So the individual mods were geared towards combat. Guess one had combat with SM and won.... should've checked checked Wrye Bash. Just a little curious, what mods do you consider essential?

Just a little curious, what mods do you consider essential? Yes OBSE can make things a bit wonky. I usually stay away from external programs because they always get flaky on me eventually. The only one i use is OBMM for my load order when using other mods besides official content. Thats a good play style. I usually go with the melee style with some conjuration sometimes. Lately i've started using the marksman skill after discovering how lethal it is after comparing the modded and unmodded damage effects. The unmodded marksman was much more to my liking taking down enemies really quickly compared to most overhauls where marksman seems almost useless. As for essential mods when using them i would say: G_'s Loot Mod by gq13kid which gets rid of the vanilla scaling where bandits etc are wearing powerful and expensive armor. It also tweaks the ingame loot so theres a chance of finding anything in the game at any level. Its very balanced and makes finding loot very interesting eventhough Bethesda has done a great job with the patches to make the original loot much more rewarding compared to when the game first came out in 2006. Here is the link to it: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=501 Eventhough i dont use it all the time since its hit and miss once in awhile when it comes to crashing or making the landscape disappear the Unofficial Oblivion Patch by Quarn & Kivan fixes a ton of bugs left behind by Bethesda due to time constraints etc  It also makes the game run much more smoother. Just make sure to get the latest version. They also have created similar patches for the official content and Shivering Isles Expansion. These guys are truly dedicated but then again most Modders are. Lucky us :woot: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1417 Everything else is pretty much a matter of taste and may come with a bit of glitchy oddness. Texture mods and body mods i have found to be very safe and its all a matter of what your pc can handle. I usually Wiseman's texture landscape mods with its incredible fake bump mapping technique. You may get disappearing landscape though if using it with the Unofficial Patch. http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=97306
AltreU
I usually don't do damage changing mods, though I have tried some. I do use a few things to make using a bow more realistic (I've taken archery classes and used to go out with a friend and fire at random things in the woods using his compound bows, so I'm a fairly skilled marksman my self). I'm now playing Wood Elf Shinobi. He's based around ranged attacks, so as long as he goes undetected, everything dies before they realize someones killing their crew. If they do find me and make physical contact, he takes major damage, so it balances out. I'm glad that I can refrain from using the overpowered weapons in my inventory, such as the Masamune and Tessaiga. I'm saving certain items for higher levels, until then, I'm trying to find a place to store them. I've seen Wisemans mods before and maybe even looked at them, I guess I never downloaded them though. The scaling mod looks useful. I've seen mods like it, but never trusted them. Now that one has been recommended, I'll try it. Through tedious installation, I've managed to get back up to 40-something mods with successful use of each. Hopefully, it'll stay that way. I've actually gotten to play and enjoy the game in the passed week. So far, my Wood Elf is level three and is easy to maintain.
