CWDelicious
In the OBSE readme, it mentions disk and steam versions of the install. I'm pretty sure this is the issue, since I use neither. (Is there a difference between a disk and a disk image?) When I try to run OBSE, it gives me a blank terminal window. Does anyone know what I can do to get OBSE running? yeldarb
You need to pin the obse_launcher.exe to the icon on your desktop instead of oblivionlauncher.exe. If you have a Direct to Drive version of Oblivion I can not help you, except by saying spend the money and get the Steam Version.

I'm running Windows 7. I'm not positive if it's compatible.
yeldarb
Is Oblivion installed in C:Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion , I recommend Installing Oblivion to C:Games\Oblivion to avoid UAC issues with Windows 7. You do not need to run an XP emulator to have Oblivion work with Windows 7. EDIT 8:55 PM CST US You may have a load order problem with your game. Look for a link to bben46's Guide to Reinstalling Oblivion. Sorry that I did not think of this sooner. If yoiu can launch Oblivion with the oblivion launcher in the Oblivion file and it loads normally it is a UAC problem. If you get the same black screen for more than five seconds, then it is a problem with your load order or a missing data file( probably an esm). Can I just run the OBSE Launcher as administrator? -edit- Nope :/
Pronam
Where did you get oblivion? It might be the reason it'll not work, not every place is reliable. Thus may not work with OBSE.
bben46
There are only 3 legal ways to get Oblivion, Disk, Steam and D2D.OBSE does not work with the D2D version due to the extra security. Some no CD cracks cause problems with the game.It does not work with many pirate versions because it was written to use the legal version. The steam version is so cheap now there is no reason not to pay for it. Many people, including me, run Oblivion in Win7 - both 32 and 64 bit versions with no problems. I think it runs better. However, it is recommended to NOT install to the default location due to the increased protection provided by UAC. It tends to block mods and other add ons from installing properly. Most people find C:\Games\Oblivion a good place to put it. I do not recommend disabling UAC as that is unlocking a door for viruses - such as those found on many torrent sites. We do not support people who do not support the game maker. If we determine your copy is pirated, that will get you an instant ban. If you have a pirate (stolen) version, it is not supported here. Please go back to your pirate site for any support they offer (good luck with that). Any discussion relating to piracy - including posting links to known pirate sites will get you banned.Bben46, Moderator
CWDelicious
There are only 3 legal ways to get Oblivion, Disk, Steam and D2D. When I buy games I make an iso so I don't need to switch disks out constantly, or if I lose a game, it isn't really lost.
