Mod Making resources help

Okay, so I'm very late "to the game" so its nice to see so many people still active with New Vegas. I used to mod Morrowind extensively. In that regard, I recall some essential modding resources I used a lot and wanted to ask if anyone knew of some similar "tools" for NV.

TES:3 Item Index

-A visual "catalog" of a lot of terrain features, statics and many other world objects like lights. Usually with pictures, editor IDs etc.

This was my most used resource next to the construction set of course. EXTREMELY useful for making mods, Categorized by type, it made finding files with odd IDs much easier, or similar items with very different IDs (I.E.: furn_in_kegstand & com_furn_kegstand)

Something like this for New Vegas would be a gret help I believe, especially with all the new stuff in comparison to TES: CS.

Scripting for Dummies:

-What do you think it does ? I know there's a GECK wiki, but the Scripting for Dummies for Morrowind was extremely well put together and had indexes of all functions, variables etc and detailed explanations of them all as well as tutorials and sample scripts, categorized for learning convenience (I.E.: "Working With Inventories" explained functions related to adding/removing items from different inventories and example scripts, explaining how the example worked, why and what functions/variables were used etc)

MMM: The Morrowind Mod Maker's Manual &/OR The Mod Maker's Bible

-Both extremely well made and extensive guides full of tutorials and basic info as well as very in depth info on basicly every aspect of modding. Indexes, links to utilities etc also. Really covered all the bases and maintained depth for them all and explained any and everything you could need to know all in one place.

TES:3 Script Library

- A community made collection of scripts for many different uses, categorized. Some of the best classic scripts ready to copy and paste. Even better, its a great way to see how people achieved certain effects, and learn how to set up your own scripts in doing so.

If anyone knows of some helpful New Vegas modding tutorials and resources similar to these, I appreciate all the help

EDIT: Before I forget, I was looking through the GECK wiki, and certain things like "spell" effects (or whatever their FO equal is called) are not explained anywhere completely. Either that or I am missing them. The UESP (Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) have extensive info on every stat, attribute, spell type, spell effects, abilities, condition, functions, etc etc for every ES game. I could really use an in depth guide, wiki, manual etc or something that explains the difference between Game Effects and Base Effects or NVRestoreLimb and RestoreLimb effects. I cant find any IN DEPTH info on many modding aspects such as this

im not big on scripting infact that maybe what cripples me more times then not so i'll leave that to someone else to answer, however for other things if you want.

"dds converter 2": is clearly to turn textures to a type of file that you can edit it in a photoshop programs or whatever and then back again. however with "gimp 2.8" I rarely need to use dds converter these days.

"bsa brower": just to pull files

"fallout mod manager": also pulls files

"geck": moder kit

"autodesk 3ds max 2012": allows you to edited and make new meshes, animations, also textures. a lot of people use a different program for this but I find this one easier to use.

"nifscope": for linking your meshes, textures and so on together.

as for tutorials idk, I think millenia did one on weapons awhile back.

I seen one on youtube for making buildings and such by someone else a while ago.

I don't think there even is one for making armor and clothes..

as for scripting and just editing things in the game I think theirs 1000s of videos on that on youtube..

I feel not enough people mod for falloutnv, everyone seems to just go crazy for elder scrolls which is fine I too play them just as much as fallouts, however I think fallouts have great potential for a lot of cool mods that people just never do or they do it for the wrong game.. why put guns, high tec stuff and modern cities in skyrim?.. as little sense as it makes for fallouts atlest its more fitting here. or outfits that sure are cool but.. like resident evil armors for elder scrolls? why cant they just make it for fallouts.. that's as odd as making magic wands in fallout. anyway i'll end my rant. just nice to see more people moding for falloutnv.

Honestly forgot I made this post, thanks for the reply. I have GIMP, NIFSkope, FOMM, FNVEdit and WryFlash, all of which I have experience with and some of which were around since my Morrowind experiments much like their authors im sure.

As for the modding scene, I totally agree. When I first got my hands on TES Construction Set, I realized just how powerful it was, like many others. I saw a way to take the game engine and the powerful tools and build my OWN game, for the very frist time, people with little or no previous knowledge could add meaningful content to and open world with great details and mechanics, many of which you could alter yourself. I recall being AMAZED that the spoons on the tables in Vvardenfell were yours to pick up and sell should you wish. An immersive 3D world and a plethora of great modders making it even more amazing.

What was my first REAL goal ? After building a player home in Balmora (EVERYONE DOES DAMNIT), a few overpowered spells...etc etc etc... "What if..." I thought..."I took Morrowind's depth and variety and style, but put it in MODERN times ? A detailed sandbox where everything is actually something and instead of swords and axes there were guns and baseball bats ?" Then BAM not much later Fallout 3. All my dreams came true. And with the same ingenuity, variety and an open world, and to top it off the same powerful modding software options. How can anyone even live their lives when this s#*! exists !? Like...I lose sleep modding sometimes...lol...FOR YEARS AT A TIME... Skyrim is great but damn, sometimes you wanna just put your magicka away and shoot some hot raider chicks in the face right ? I'd like to see the huge amount of content for Fallout myself. I mean there's already ALOT of good stuff, but it seems like fot the Scrolls theres just ALOT more. Project Brazil and TTW are the only really big mods that come to mind that actually add large numbers of NEW gameplay instead of just overhauls, weapons and armor, and TTW is just FO:3, so I cant even say its "new" gameplay can I ? I mean sure there's some smaller ones out there, but Morrowind has frickin Tamriel Rebuilt. Thats like a whole new game (or a few) ! Okay...I now realize that I too have made a ridiculous giant rant...Im SOOO lonely ! :*(

J/K, I CHOOSE to be alone with my games and mods ;)

i feel the same, when i had 1st started to mod and getting mods for morrowind back in the day i thought two things, 1 i would likely never play anything else again and 2 i wouldn't have time for anything else in life but it X)

i did move on to oblivion but i had disliked it so much compared to morrowind i just kept doing full world conversions on it. i don't really have a problem with skyrim i mean it is lacking a bit compared to oblivions rich questlines like the dark botherhood and such, it was so much more..

anyway besides armors and weapons honestly i feel people just don't mod for falloutnv. i mean i have seen a few big ones and maybe i missed other ones.. anyway "fallout who vegas" looks great, i had downloaded it awhile back but just now am trying it. also there is a team remaking resident evil for falloutnv that should be really awesome. i also think there are some silent hill mods aswell. besides that i haven't really run into anything that adds more to the game like this. nothing really big.. its kind of sad, i do mod for myself but just places and things, doing a story mod or adventure mod for your self isn't as exciting as doing someone elses. i wish mods like "dukecity oblivion", "knox skyrim" or others things like that would be made for fallouts it would just be so much fun. idk i just find modern cities more fun, nothing like running around the back ally's of resident evil 3, vampire masquerade cites, even dukcity. idk why but that's why im here because it has the best potential for that kinda stuff just no one seems to be doing it as far as i can tell.

btw not everyone makes a balmora house i lived in caldera most of my morrowind life. hmm.. then again i did start in balmora =| nvm..

anyway make what you like, theres a lot of videos as to how to mod for fallouts. oh and fallout3 and falloutnv can use the same meshes and textures if you didn't already know. i hope the next fallout will do the same as its annoying to lose all my stuff in an upgrade to a new game.. i still miss some great morrowind mods when i play skyrim.. there just hasn't been anything like them since.

-snip-

lol, told you; Balmora was everyones first stop Im pretty sure. Why not put the perfect home their ? I made some huge mods for Morrowind, factions, entire crafting systems, resource systems (like owning property such as mines or businesses that generated different resources), a perk sysetm, factions, unique button-push traps and barriers, different "explosives", unique weapons and armors, purchasable property, stores with tons and tons of new weapons and armor etc; It was all I did for months sometimes, almost like a job. But you're absolutely correct, PLAYING a quest mod, even well done, isn't the same if YOU made it :/

I think Skyrim and Oblivion both were geared towards the masses, more fast paced, super genericified (<---that is now a word btw) with a faster pace and better scripted NPCs etc. Where the quests and events are better looking, but the length and variety were somewhat gone. I LOVED wandering to all the different towns in TES3 and lookin in the SEVERAL DIFFERENT SHOPS PER TOWN INSTEAD OF JUST ONE, and seeing what they had. Huge veriety compared to TES4 & 5. Of course if you add mods, this makes it exponentially more fun and varied. I really like Skyrims combat and graphics, I just wish there was more RPG-ish stuff and more variety...

I cant seem to get into NV the same way modding like I did Morrowind. But anyways, yesterday I came across a mod I am hoping will stand out in quality, its called the Rockwell Pursuit. Check it out if you want to. I was looking for something different with a new questline so, we'll see I guess
