DragonsCrest
Hey all, I thought i'd try Oblivion out on the PC with some mods and I was getting right back into this game but... I'm having a really hard time with Oblivion and I cannot work out why its messing around. Let me point out that there was a powercut whilst the game was in a loading screen with mods activated. The problem is that the game will work fine for around 5 minutes with or without mods. After those 5 (or sometimes less) minutes Oblivion will turn the screen back for around a second and then return me to the Desktop. I've been redaing around a lot of other forums and troubleshooting sites for this but for some reason when i choose to restore Oblivion via the Taskbar it will restore back to the game but everything in the game becomes still and un-animated...yet I can move the mouse around and my view changes. This happens on new games and loaded games. But as soon as I change back into 3rd person view/journal/pause menu the game completely locks up but the music will still play. I have previously tried lowering my 3D graphics to be based on performace and not quality, run the Nvidia NTune tool but it reports my clocks are at the lowest level, updating my graphics drivers, re-installing Oblivion, setting Oblivions graphics to basically the lowest of the low but still Oblivion will not have it. I have other audio codecs installed but I really dont think its those causing it I'm all out of ideas. The funny thing is that it working perfectly before the powercut happened on medium graphics, with around 10 mods running. I know you guys probably get a load of questions like this but I could really do with some help, was enjoying being able to use a Burmecian with Devil May Cry animations and spears
Skevitj
Have you tried reinstalling Oblivion? It wouldn't be the first time a hard shutdown has damaged a system file just enough that it works most of the time, but still not properly. Hell, I've lost count of the number of times windows has destroyed non-critical files due to blackouts, destroyed a few critical ones over the years too. Oblivion doesn't work for me when trying to restore it from being minimised, so I think the locking up is more a symptom than a problem, and should clear up when the cause of the minimisation is removed. Thanks, I'll check out the crash help guide asap and once I've followed it i'll post how things went afterwards
DragonsCrest
Ok, I tried the obse plugin that helps reduce crashes but it still hasn'nt stopped the crash i am getting OBSE: initialize (version = 18.6 010201A0)oblivion root = C:\Users\Ad\Desktop\Spuds Documents\My Pics\plugin directory = C:\Users\Ad\Desktop\Spuds Documents\My Pics\Data\OBSE\Plugins\checking plugin C:\Users\Ad\Desktop\Spuds Documents\My Pics\Data\OBSE\Plugins\\weOCPS.dllplugin C:\Users\Ad\Desktop\Spuds Documents\My Pics\Data\OBSE\Plugins\\weOCPS.dll (00000001 weOCPS 01328DD8) loaded correctlypatchedDoLoadGameHook: C:\Users\Ad\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\autosave.essloading from C:\Users\Ad\Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves\autosave.obseLoading stringsLoading array variables So the plugin is working fine I guess. Is there any other obse plugins that might help? Or is there any other information like DirectX info?
Deleted1130092User
The still animations are a common error with my computer, only when i Alt-Tab out of it. maybe an external program is trying to get attention by minimizing oblivion? try seeing if there are any alerts on or something. DragonsCrest
Just to confirm that it was a background process/service and RAM overload causing Oblivion to minimise and then crash. Thanks for the tips everybody and if you are reading this and you are getting crashes like or similar to mine read bben46's Crash Guide, its worked wonders and I can now play Oblivion set at High graphics. Peace
