CTD when time passes

I've just run into a CTD problem that had not existed before. I have not changed my mods; something in the game has changed. As far as I can tell, the crash triggers when I take any action that would cause time to pass "behind the scenes" - sleeping, waiting, and fast travel all result in a crash, while ordinary area transitions do not. I don't know of any further tricks to test this hypothesis, but if there's something else I should try, let me know. I have an older save file using the same mods which does not have the crash problem, so something that I did recently has set this off. My actions since that save file, as much as I can recall:

 

1) Trained Mercantile five times. (I intended to train more, but Oblivion XP glitched out somewhere since I last checked it and no longer remembers my accumulated training options from previous levels.)

 

2) [Quest] "Kvatch Rebuilt: Sticks and Stones" from the Kvatch Rebuilt mod. Talked to the Count of Skingrad and then turned in the quest.

 

3) [Quest] "Meridia." Turned in the completed quest.

 

4) [Quest] "Unfinished Business." Talked to Maglir and then turned in the quest.

I have experienced crashes when I should be waking up that were related to Kvatch Rebuilt. Try to wait at the Bridge entrance to the Imperial City at Weye when Ingmar shows up with a letter. The crashing is covered in the FAQ for Kvatch Rebuilt. It recommends not waiting/sleeping in a City or town. As for the training levels I do not use Oblivion XP, but you can adjust the training times with the bashed patch settings. The default is [5], but you can change it to [100] when you rebuild your patch.

That still doesn't explain why fast travel was causing a problem, but it's good to know all the same. Thank you.

 

Weirdly enough, the crashes cleared themselves up in the morning. My computer's auto-defrag ran last night, and it restarted afterward. I don't know which one helped, but in the saved game where I couldn't sleep/wait/travel last night, I am now able to do all of these things without issue. Color me confused.

Not certain defrag and restart are going to help, but it's worth a try.
