Where on earth did this Fiona come from  I don't recall any mention of this in the game. If it is from books or comics I think that should be a separate discussion as not everyone reads them.

I also think the DR or die thing both suck. I have enough hard choices in life and I play these games to take get away form all that not make things worse.

I think I remember something in the Codex about this, but it's been a while since I read them that I cannot remember for sure.

I thought I had read all the codex entries as they come up, either I've missed it in every game or I'm having a CRAFT moment.

Rusty- Fiona didnt actually "abandon" Alister. She was a Grey Warden, and after he was born, she was recalled to Weisshaup (or h/e its spelled). She did, what she considered to be the best option possible, for both the baby, and the father. Which, was turn him over TO his father. She knew that she wouldnt be able to provide very well for him as an active Warden. As an Elven Mage, who had lived in an Alienage as a child, then sold into slavery to a master that chained her up and beat her with a whip on a regular basis, she wanted more than anything for her son to have a good life. And she thought that Maric would provide that, what with him being a king and all.

In that aspect, its not really that much different than a poor, single mother, turning their kid over to their parents to raise, since they arent capable of doing so themselves.

There is also the political aspect in her decision. She was recalled to Weisshaupp. What with Riordan's account of what the Weisshaupp Wardens are like, she most likely did NOT want them to have any kind of political leverage against Ferelden, or it's king. Not to mention an Heir to Ferelden's king under their influence or as their hostage.

Now... the REAL problem was that he was not only illegitimate, but also born of an elf, and a mage. He'd never have been accepted as part of the Court, and most likely the Templars/Chantry would be keeping a close eye on him in order to determine whether he would develop magical talents. Which rolls back to why they dont have mages in the nobility.... the chance of being possessed, or the use of blood magic against their followers.

With that in mind, Maric choose the option of hiding him, and his identity, in order to protect him. Therefor, they cooked up the scheme and story about his "real" mother dying, and had Maric's brother-in-law take him. With Duncan acting as sort of the "Obi-Wan-Kinobi" type protector watching over him from a distance. (Star Wars episode 4 - A New Hope).

True... this may not have been the most humane thing to do, however again... it was because of political reasons.

Now.... the MOST IMPORTANT kink in this plan, turned out to be Eamon's Wife. Lasy errrr... LaDy Isolde. And we all know how the story went, from there.

Poor Isolde, she gets no respect does she

Back to topic...

What do you think happens when you die in US? Do you think that DA would go like ME3 (when you die in ME2 Shepard won't transfer) and you be forced to make a new 'Warden' or it would go like ME2 and no matter how you end the game you can still transfer?

Well, as far as what happens, your soul is destroyed and there is nothing left after that. That much is explained. No Fade for you.

Probably can transfer regardless...dunno.

LOL the comment about Isolde was actually a typo. Tho when I saw it I chuckled, so I just left it and used a correction

I'm not sure. I mean, since even if the warden dies at the end of DAO, after the epilogue, its still the same. The warden is standing on a field, with the option to go back to camp, or go to the DLC areas. And since dead Warden could have been imported to DAA.... my guess is that a dead warden would be able to be imported into DA2 as well.

Tho again, thats just a guess. BW is being tight lipped about a lot of stuff in regards to DA2.
