Xvid or Dvix and Rendering Codex: What are these things?

the following things:

 

Sony Vegas (got that)

Fraps (had that)

Xvid/Dvix for Rendering Codex? (No bloody clue what that is or what it does or why I would need it or how to get it...)

 

My goal is to take the fraps footage, edit it with Sony Vegas, putting Music in, etc....

 

Could someone please tell me what this rendering codex is? as well as Xvid and Dvix?

Many dvd players and movie software uses divx or xvid, its manly the same but ones open source and the other is owned. Its a great Codec for HD video.

 

 

I use it once before for encoding stuff, manly home made stuff from games to Youtube way back, lol lost my account do to email changes. Well also lost interest.
