RE0305
Hello, loading a saved game takes a very long time for me. I am running the game on a laptop with 32-bit windows 7, runs smoothly with most of the settings on high or very high. I got the game of the year version with the latest patch and alot of mods running together like, FOOK2, Weapon mod kits, better living with chems, body replacement mods and so on. I got them all working together nicely and only DLC bugging out so far is ZETA, but i don't much care for that either. I have very few crashes, probably only the inevitable ones that happen from time to time, mods or no mods. Area loading and transitions are very quick, entering and exiting the Citatel for instance takes anywhere from 1 to 3 seconds, so no problems there. Loading a saved game is a real nightmare however. The last time started up the game and chose my latest save game it took exactly 1 hour and 11 minutes to for the game to load. Once loaded however, everything's great, plays smooth and very little crashing. I've noticed that as i get further into the game the longer the loading of a saved game takes, i guessing thats because the save gets bigger. I didn't notice it in the begging, the loading took like a few seconds like everything else, but after 119 hours into the game it's getting unbearable. I have searched around the internet for a week now, hoping that my problem would be common enough, but that does not seem to be the case. Can anyone shed any light on this matter, whats going on, is this some sort of bug? corrupt save? working as intended? Can i fix my save somehow, i would really like to finish my game at some point and as everything else seems to be working pretty good and since ive already have alot of time invested into that particular character i really can't afford the time to start the game from scratch. I could continue on as it is now, but im afraid that at some point my game will take 2 hours to load and leaving me with only 1 hour to play with on a good day so that would really become pointless. Oh and i got like 6 different saves and each and every one takes alot of time to load, even the quick and auto saves. Im not sure, but it feels like the bigger the particular save the longer the load. Can anyone help please?
quicksilverva
thats normally the case. the save file becomes bloated with data and loading tends to take longer and longer
RE0305
thats normally the case. the save file becomes bloated with data and loading tends to take longer and longer Yes, i figured as much. Is there anything that can be done? I doubt a save game loading for a hour is normal however, even for fallout 3 standards.

It should never take more than a minute or two. If you have a lot of mods you could try making a merged patch with FO3edit, which sometimes helps -- worked for me anyhow when I was getting slower loading times. It can happen that saving while the pipboy radio is playing will cause the saved file to be slow to load, but never an hour, which is ridiculous. I made a merged right after setting up all the mods and before beginning my new game, but ill try out your suggestion and see if it helps. The radio thing is interesting as i just read from somewhere that the game sometimes saves all of Three Dogs jabber and thus makes the save large and loading long, wonder if there is a connection. Anyway i need to be off for tonight and will try your suggestion out tomorrow first chance, thank you.
Quetzlsacatanango
You probably have a mod using PlaceAtMes and not deleting them, causing your save game bloat. I don't know of a way to fix it short of going back to an old save. Which doesn't mean there's not a way.

I don't know of a way to fix it short of going back to an old save. Which doesn't mean there's not a way. Well, tried the merged patch suggestion, no luck, downloaded CASM, no help there, i think you are probably right. Is there any way to find out what mod uses the thing you mentioned so i could get rid of it and avoid it in the future? Also, if a particular mod is using PlaceAtMes is it a surefire thing that my savegame will get bloated eventually or is it more like a bug that may or may not happen? RE0305
ok. im wrong sue me :P cant be right ALL the time....hell, cant be right even half the time :D well, you weren't wrong about the bloating part, i managed to find an early save and it loads like a charm. Only problem is that its saved right after exiting vault 101 the first time and i still don't know which mods to avoid should i decide to start from the beginning, although im really not inclined to do so. I read something about wyre bash and that it can be used to clean up bloated saves in oblivion, but haven't found anything like that for fallout, does anyone know if something like that exists for fallout and what the name of the thing might be?
