Fallout 3 Massive Confusion. Input required

Ok guys go easy on me I am new to the forums and this game. I have wanted to play this game for quite some time now. Every time I was about to get ready and play the game I became intimated and confused with all the mods out there. I am running a 5870 and a Phenom II 965. So naturally I would like to have this game up and running with the best visual effects possible. Problem is there is a vast array of mods out there and even browsing the top 100 I have no clue what will work and what is incompatible with one another. I am not really looking to change the gameplay only the visual effects like atmosphere, HD textures, HD sound, improvements in the HUD layout, etc....

Of course I am open to a gameplay mod change if it really improves the original gameplay.

So far what I have come across is the Fileplanet Modpack v.4, FO3 RAM Boost, and HD sound package.

Fact is, I am totally Lost with Fallout 3, I have never seen such a huge and active Mod community for a single player game it just astonishes me and makes me think that FALLOUT must have been one hell of a game to peak to many peoples interest. Anyhow if someone can be so kind to walk me through a little bit here so I can better understand what I need and what I must avoid as I would love to opportunity to get to play this game in it's glory.
