Like most others that use this site, i hav many mods installed for oblivion. I just want to know if theres a way to change the name of any .esm/.esp file so that its eaiser to know which mods im activating when in OBMM.

I have tried this before and generally, if i change the name of a mod .esp, the game cant be played unless i deactivate the mod, or change its name back.

So, is there a way to change it or not? And if there is, how?

I should state up front that I don't have any OMODs installed and don't know much about it. It is probably a bad thing to change file names if you have lots of OMODs.

As far as changing names goes, it really depends on the mod. In many cases it is safe to change the name to whatever you want.

For example:

The armor mod "GHR4.esp" can be renamed "Georges Horrendous Red Platemail in Four Varieties.esp" or whatever you want to call it with no ill-effects at all.

The quest mod "The File.esp" which has silent dialog can be renamed "Shadows of the Phantom.esp" You will lose all the silent voice files when you rename, but you can just use TES4Gecko to create new silent dialog.

If a mod has voiced dialog do not rename it.

I am not sure about mods with masters in addition to Oblivion.esm. I suspect you would end up with missing masters if you renamed some .esms or .esps which were masters.

I think there are some other things you can lose by renaming a mod, but they are not as common as the dialog, which would be your biggest problem.
