Another CTD Sufferer

Recommended Posts

so. hi. i'm freaky ;) and in advance sorry for my sometimes bad english, i'm not a native speaker

and I have one main problem that stops me from playing very lovely game oblivion (dah)

its... CTD.. yes again another person with CTD, i know i know.... so let's start.. and. i really need some help

CTDs happens only in outdors and in cities, i yet saw NO ctds in exterior cells such as buildings, guilds, castles, dungeons etc. but it happens rather frequently in cities and in wilderness

in my cause CTD is just crash without any errors, oblivion just dissapears and it's all. in some place for a second or two i stuck, i mean music playing, but visuals is stuck and after a moment oblivion dissapears and it's ta-dah yes it's my desktop of course. nothing more nothing less. i have many mods installed (do i need to show you a list of them), really many of them, there are music mods, weather mods, armors/weapons, gameplay mods, maps, horses, models/textures mods etc. and no i haven't "pluggy" mod. and yes i have all patches including unofficial and shivering isles (also i have GOTY oblivion edition). and CTD can happen EVEN when i'm just f-ing auto-run in a wall, when there is nothing on screen except a WALL. i tried it with different chars, custom and vanilla races, it's all the same. i tried different in-game video options like HDR/Bloom/AAs, tried changing resolutions. tried to turn off some mods like quarl (actually i now playing without quarl, it causes my computer suffer a lot stutterings outdoors), animated windows, i have no "better cities" or "open cities" even didn't tried it.

and finally:

windows xp sp3

intel core2duo E8400 wolfdale 3.0ghz (also BIG cooler on it, "big typhoon")

ati radeon hd4850 512mb

2gb RAM (1+1)

also about overclocking, I overclocked my cpu some time ago to 4.0ghz, then downed it to 3.7 and around a week I return it back to normal 3.0ghz (while overclocking i was doing RAM timings up), but now i believe all in it's default. my video i didn't touched, i mean i tried a little but then it showed my a big ass and I return it to default.

also i need to tell that my videocard is, i believe, a little bit damaged or somekind of worn out, because around a half-year ago i noticed that it's working much worse than a year ago and it's reeeealy hot in 3d games, i can fry an eggs on it probably. but with most cool nowadays' 3d games my videocard usually going crazy, inbuilt cooler working like crazy, but i can play many games without a problem (like hitman contracts, dark messiah, the saboteur, dragon age, resident evil 5 etc.). and in oblivion in fact my gpu isn't going crazy like in most resourse-demanding games. i believe that i told almost all that you must know in my situation.. and really need your help, because i adore this game very much =)

There is no real easy solution for stopping CTDS.

You might try using Windom Earle_s Oblivion Crash Prevention, but it does not stop 100% of crashes. Oblivion is a very unstable game. It requires vast amounts of processing power and memory. If you had a more powerful computer, it might help, but that is a very expensive option. You probably ought to systematically remove your mods in large groups and keep careful records of what you remove when. When the problem goes away and your game stops crashing so often, you can start installing mods until the problem comes back. You can isolate exactly which mod is causing the extra crashes and permanently remove it.

lately i'm thinking about it... it's totally not what i like, because i have many mods, but maybe it's the only decision.

yes i have weOCP, didn't notice a slightest improvement =\

my computer isn't good enough? :blink: is it because it's a little bit old or is it because of my videocard's case? or do i just need more RAM?

then why around two years ago on this very computer (only it was almost new and without a "big typhoon" cooler, and it wasn't overclocked) oblivion was running just perfectly? i didn't install SO much mods, but i wasn't playing vanilla either

=======

and right now I disabled most of my mods (not all that are not necessarily) and what did i saw? its actually kinda funny. used quickstart mod and there am I, at the exit from sewers. waited for quests to load, some textures.. heard a sound - turn left. there is this small crab as i saw it the game CTDed :pinch: :dry: :laugh:

=======

disabled all mods that wasn't necessarily. no crashes at all yet. will test a little bit more... at last seems that it's really a mod problem =\

thanks)) but i know many of this things already and i sometimes using game booster.

and i found that vanilla runs PERFECT on my computer. played it around half an hour and no crashes or lags at all (with patches and unofficial patches), it's cool. but now the bad part, i'll start enabling my mods :biggrin: i'll say if i will find that "bad" mod that causes my neverending crashes

i'm terribly sorry for overposting. it happens.

now i am almost certain that it was mod conflicts in mods like

deadly reflex+symphony of violence or maybe cheydinhal petshop or some random conflicts on minor mods.

now i'm f-ing with new conflicts that i created when reinstalling and replacing mods like deadly reflex with others. already created a topic in mod troubles, so i'm now sure that this is MOD problems, and my cause in no longer belong to "technical support" so this topic is at it's END :biggrin:

  • 4 weeks later...

Anyone having problems with instant ctd when exiting an interior room? It happens to me anywhere in the game; it could be leaving a cave, house, etc. I believe it might a mod(s) issue and not a hardware one because I upgraded an uber gaming puter with all the trimmings and Im still getting it. I've tried many combinations of adjusting lighting settings, etc. I was told that it might be my NVIDIA card (8400 gt) driver, but im kind leaning on the mod(s) as being the culprit since im almost at my max of 255 active mods. So, i know im just begging for ctds when running almost 255 active mods!

So i was wondering if anyone knows of a push list of mods that might cause this kind of predicament Im in?

I use boss and manually load items when a mod's readme file calls for it.

Thanks,

Trip

The closer you are to the active limit, the more unstable the game is. Mods that have been found to be guilty of interior-exterior transitions, most notably, are ScreenEffects because of the buggy OBGE.DLL and Pluggy with the HUD functionality activated.

Edit: Next time, please make a new thread. It is confusing sometimes when you think you have solved the issue, and you later realize the person you have been helping all that time was not the OP, and the OP is still suffering whatever the problem might have been.
