Xcom94
Thought I might ask here. Topic says it all. Any possibility to get Xcom + long war to run on a tablet? If so which one(s)? How about Vanilla Xcom (EU and EW)? I have Samsung Galaxy tab 3 at home, but play-store says my device does not support Xcom...? ----------- I guess iPad could run vanilla xcom, but how about long war? dubiousintent
What OS is your tablet running? So far, the only OS platforms other than Windows and gaming consoles that we know of are OS/X and Linux (edit: and ARM IOS apparently). If it can run XCOM, and you can get access to the folder structure where the game is installed, then Long War should (in theory) be able to be installed to run. The details as to folder names may need working out, though. What we know can be found here. Most tablets (don't know about the Galaxy specifically) are using an ARM processor, or something other than an x86 chip. If your play-store says XCOM is not supported, then it probably isn't available for that processor and/or OS. Think of it like a car: you can't use parts from a European brand car in a different American brand car unless the manufacturer makes the effort to make them compatible, and then tells you they are. -Dubious- Edited September 29, 2014 by dubiousintent
Xcom94
I have galaxy tab 3 (gt-p5200), 10" and it has android 4.2.2. Playstore has xcom https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tt2kgames.xcomeuso it has an android port. For some reason store says my device is not compatible with xcom and I cant download/buy it....Min.reqs are android 2.3 or newer. When I connect my tablet tp pc with usb I can access atleast some of the file structure. dubiousintent
Yeah, so far we have no reports about either the Intel Atom chipset or Android OS support for XCOM. Sorry about that. Frankly, I have severe doubts about any game in general designed for gaming consoles and the PC running on small devices. The tradeoffs for miniaturization usually take too heavy a toll on game performance without re-writing the code. Even laptops usually have problems if the game has higher end requirements. "Small size" always has to make some concession to performance. -Dubious- Edited September 29, 2014 by dubiousintent
Xcom94
Oh well, thanks anyway :) I know what you mean about miniaturization but for a while I had my hopes up about playing xcom on the road. I travel alot and don't want to dragg laptop with me unless I really need to.
egalfaon
I have an LG G2 and XCOM: Enemy Within works fine and smooth. Is there a way to play Long War? thank you! p.s. OS: Android 4.4.2 Edited January 29, 2015 by egalfaon
dubiousintent
What little that is known for smart phones is found here. There are no instructions to date for getting LW to work on them, but if you can figure the equivalent to the manual install instructions, it should work. If you manage it, let us know and we'll update the wiki for the benefit of others. -Dubious-
egalfaon
Thank you for your reply. Seems like 2k uses .obb files => no long war for android users :sad:source: http://www.alphagamers.net/threads/decrypting-opaque-binary-blob-files.1701/ at least we've got 'Enemy Within' going for us, which is nice. dubiousintent
After a little research on the net, it appears the OBB file is an package format (like DMG for the Mac) that is used to create or extract file extensions via the JOBB tool. It is part of the Android SDK, and found in the SDK directory in tools/jobb. However, without the SDK, this site lists how you can fake an uncompressed .OBB file with either ZIP or WINRAR. AFAIK, the LW files are not packaged as OBBs. But if you ask the team in the "XCOM File Discussions" forum, they might be willing to use this technique to package a fake OBB extension as it's just a way of packaging LInux/Mac versions for Androids. The alternative would be to see if you can find a ZIP archiver for the Android. -Dubious- Edited January 31, 2015 by dubiousintent
egalfaon
x-com obb files cannot be open with a zip archiver. And the JOBB tool syntax look like this jobb [-d <directory>][-o <filename>][-pn <package>][-pv <version>] \ [-k <key>][-ov][-dump <filename>][-v][-about] it looks like you might need a <key> I haven't tryed. Hope that this problem will get in the hands of a more experienced android user/developer and post the solution for us.
