Modding is supposed to be fun. If it it isn't fun, then why make the mod?

I applaud your willingness to share.

I've made several mods and have never released any of them. Primarily becauseI don't want to hear the the blah blah from ingrates but also because I'm too lazy to figure out how to package and upload, lol.

 

Anyway, I'll be looking for your next mod because i like your style!!

Goranga, I love love loved your dating system mod. I hope you don't just plumb quit, your stuff adds a breath of fresh air to a game more than half a decade old. Don't give up! Fight the power!

I don't feel like I want to explain myself to anyone, but I will repeat why is this mod canceled.

 

This mod requires tons of animations. I have never learned how to make them. I tried and the process is pain in the a**. Without them I can't achieve the intended quality and play-ability level for this mod. Scripting alone is not good enough. The guy that made a few animations for this mod canceled his permissions to use them. He was really dear person and hard working guy. I felt awful when we discontinued work. He noticed the most important thing about this mod: it needs animations badly to be good.

 

Animations are needed everywhere in this mod. I'm not willing to borrow stuff or ask someone to make anims for me again because if that person cancels permissions to use them that's another 5 or more months of work wasted.

 

This mod also requires voice acting and meshes. Let's say that I can find people to make a few meshes and some people to play male and female characters. This can be equally important as animations.

 

Right now I can't commit to this mod because I know it can't be finished. That doesn't mean it's canceled forever. I don't know and I don't want to talk about it. Maybe it will be revived for Skyrim game. Who knows. If I learn how to animate - maybe.

 

To conclude this: I have all systems worked out. I do scripting very fast, except in some cases when I need to play around with some code that's too much creative. Voice acting and meshes can be done. I don't have time or will to learn how to animate now. I will not borrow them or ask someone to do it. I had too many bad experiences with that. Till I learn how to animate myself I will not continue this work. I will do something that requires scripting alone for my own pleasure. This thread did some good things. This is like some encyclopedia of ideas and I saw people already used some of them in their own mods. I'm really glad because of that.

 

People that bothered me in this thread think that this is some kind of porn mod where they can fulfill their fantasies. Please, get some porn movie and get done with it.

Well, mods are free, is why. They actually would have to pay for porn :P

 

Aside from that, I know all too well how it feels to be working with people on a project, only to have it go belly up. I used to be friends with a well known modder. We were working on a story together, and when it came time to write her next bit, she suddenly didn't feel like it anymore. I could have finished it without her, put the whole issue made me lose interest in it as well.

 

I struggle with the whole 'do it for you, and the rest will follow' thing. I admire your steadfastness, and I know that the next mod you do will be outstanding.

Well, it's still sad that this WIP died.

Yeah, it is sad. Beside some cosmetic mods, this is the only mod I would like to have in my game. This mod would add everything to the game so that you never stop playing. Dating, prostitution, marriage, pregnancy and sex are only systems necessary for this mod to be published. Beyond that I planed to add needs, economy, factions, friends and other. Obviously, this is not a job for one person, but it's the safest way for the mod to be, at least, released. If you include someone else, sooner or later he or she will start bitchin' about something and the whole thing will fall apart. The best way to develop this mod is to have a team of professionals. They would be payed for their work and they would have skills to solve some demanding features.

 

This is quick inventory of what has been done before sudden death of this mod (unfortunately, I can't upload or link any video materials here, because of the forum rules. Some of them are pretty nasty ;)):

 

1. The sex system - I would call this one finished or almost finished. It was clean, stable and had great features. I'm fully satisfied how this one turned out. This system is done first because it needed the most of animations.

 

2. Prostitution system - this system is merged immediately with the first one. There was no chance for making mistake with this one. It required scripting only. It was more elaborated version of my old GPS. Some dialogues needed to be added, but beside that it was good to go.

 

3. Dating system - this one was pain in the a**. I worked on it alone and I couldn't make animations to make it look good. Animations are really necessary for this system because almost everything is done with body language, gestures and touching. That's because people were animals once and they couldn't talk. They developed body language to show interest and other things. To make things worse, you need to make them touching while sitting on chairs in some bar. That's simply unsolvable. Some kind of cut scenes could be made, but I don't know how practical would it be.

 

Voice acting and sounds are also essential here. I wanted to find some dude with deep voice and some lady with soft voice. Although dialogues would be generic, I think that good voice acting can save the day.

 

I have made 3 demos and each of them was missing the same two things: animations for body language and some better way for handling dialogues. With regular dialogues, the whole atmosphere of the bar was lost. I needed something more direct. I made another demo for dialogues where I used SayTo and hotkeys to accomplish this. The results weren't satisfying so I quit working on this eventually. I had crystal clear idea how it suppose to look like, but it needed animations and voice acting. Even if I had those animations, I wouldn't know how to make them touch each other while sitting on a chair. Tefnacht wasn't interested in making anims for dating system (or anything else related to this system). He made kissing for The Sex System though. I wanted to put it into dating, but...

 

4. Marriage - I published here early beta version of marriage. The name of the mod is Goranga's companion and, of course, you could turn any NPC into companion. I think it has a few bugz. I deleted all newer versions when I canceled the mod.

 

Goranga's companion is far from what I wanted with marriage. I wanted to make something like Vilja. Someone cute to talk your ears off. As you can already guess, I needed a good voice acting here.

 

5. Pregnancy and kids - I think that concepts that I came up for this mod were good. First demo that I made proved this to be true. This part required some skills that neither Tefnacht or myself posses. That's making meshes and races. I needed to make some race that has kid-like proportions.

 

In my demo, kids were re-scaled adults. They hardly looked like kids. They grew up though. Some dude skilled with making nice looking races would save this part. I think visual aspect of all systems is very important. You loose a lot if things don't look good. Lady with equipped preggy dress looked OK. Voice acting for kids would help also.

 

These were systems that I planed for the release version of the mod.

3 - dating system. Have a word with Grumpf_be about the cutscene methods he used in Claudia's Little Secret. They were all animated on-the-fly using clones of your character and other techniques I never followed, with custom animations and dialogue as needed. Maybe his technique could be adapted to what you want to do. There are also a couple of guys who he was tutoring in multi-person animation stuff on the cLS forum - maybe one of them might do some animation work for you. He also has a kissing animation which he might be willing to allow you to use...

 

5 - Children might be do-able using a variable skeleton system, changing individual bone lengths and overall scale dependent on age of child. There's also the x117 race with the 1.17x sized skull to make the proportions look more childlike.

 

Don't give up on the mod completely, maybe take a bit of a break and then come back as a "Project Manager" role to break the missing items down into lists of external work to be done - modders may be willing to do one or two individual items to meet your spec, and then you'd hopefully only need one short-term co-worker to smooth the edges off where things weren't 100% correct. I was astounded by how much work people have been willing to put in on the Khajiit and Argonian body shape work - if you get a similar amount of response you should be able to finish this off :)
