Tomlong54210
For the record, i just did a complete reinstall of Oblivion. No mods or anything, just the game fresh off the disc. Same thing. Same problem. So it simply is that Obl is not recognizing my hardware properly. And i have no idea how to force it. Also i now can't seem to recreate my earlier success with the single card/single monitor setup.I'm telling, on that forum, someone else was trying to get a four monitor setup or something, and they eventually got through it. I will give finding that thread another try, but I have no clue what to search.
LordEmm
Okay, now i am getting really confused, because after i did a search on the two different DLLs above (which both are not present on my computer by the way) i found out the first, the "aticfx32.dll" is part of the Catalyst Drivers and normally what drives the graphics cards (DXDiag also tells me this as does Windows SysInfo). Now the other DLL "atklumdisp.dll" is actually associated with ASUS Gamer OSD (a completely useless program which seems to copy FRAPS and allows for predefined color schemes). Now i never installed this program, but it popped up on my installed list. I am guessing that the ASUS drivers in fact installed it when i got the card and first put it in as single way (and installed drivers from the DVD). So, once i uninstalled that program, and had restarted, Oblivion correctly identified the HIS card (the ASUS was taken out already yesterday after i thought it may be damaged and causing the problems this way). Not really believing my luck, i restarted, deleted the .ini and tried again. And again Oblivion got the correct info. Then i went about several Benchmarks, including GTA4, Fear Perseus Mandate, Far Cry 2, 3D Mark Vantage, and 3D Mark 06. All went fine and gave out pretty good results. Do i dare and put the ASUS back in? You betcha! And What can i say, it worked. Oblivion got it right and works, as do all the Benchmarks and except for GTA4 which may be limited by the Vsync every single one had significant improvements (Far Cry 2 went from 56 fps to 89 fps on ALL Ultra high and maxed out settings...) So i do not want to scream SUCCESS too loudly, because every time i do that something bad happens, lol. But for now i couldn't be happier... Now for that pesky ALchemy problem... By the way, many thanks for all your suggestions. I just hope this can help others who may have the same problem. Who knew that such an innocent prog can cause such trouble. LordEmm
I am sorry for bumping this and i don't think many had my kind of problems, but i finally found the solution to my EAX related one as well, so i thought i would share, just in case others run into the same weird coincidence... So, after months of searching i finally found out that the two DLLs that pop up with an error during the OBSE launcher start are part of Password Manager, which is now included in the Kaspersky Pure package. I would have never found it if i had not chanced on a "system info" tab in the Password Manager box and had gotten bored enough to click it. And what do you know, both DLLs are listed as part of that programm. So what is the solution? Simply exit the Password Manager part of Kaspersky, et voila, no more errors and full EAX support :) I hope this helps a few others and a happy new year to all you nice people out there!
