PrimalVision
Hi I have come across the "Long War" mod and would dearly like to use this. I have XCOM - Enemy Unkown on Steam. I have downloaded what I hope is the correct mod but seem to be having issues with the game freezing frequently. Could somebody please let me know if I have the correct mod version - Long War 2-12-88-2-12. I am very new to 'modding' a game so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
dubiousintent
Unfortunately for you, XCOM is not friendly to modding at all, and very frustrating for users new to mods. It is not "plug-and-play". It can be done but you will need patience and tenacity. For starters, you need to read the "Basic Guide to installing mods", and the other wiki articles it references; at the very least those listed in the "Environment" section. Otherwise you are not going to understand the guidance you get to help with your situation. Long War is supported in the "XCOM File Discussions" section. However, all the current work is directed towards "Enemy Within" (EW). In order to play LW with EU, you need to "rollback" or "Downgrade" EU to patch level 4 first. Then you can use the version on the LW download page labelled "Long War EU". Anything else is not patched correctly for EU. (I don't know if that is the version you cited. Those numbers are not familiar to me.) Issues with the EU downgrade patch have been addressed in this thread. If you don't find your answer there, you are probably out of luck unless you buy the EW DLC and use the latest beta version of LW. Which is really the simplest solution. One final note: LW is considerably more difficult than vanilla. If you haven't played XCOM, do play through vanilla at least once on any difficulty before attempting LW. It really is a different game requiring different strategies and tactics. Without the experience of vanilla, you won't appreciate it nearly as much. -Dubious- Edited October 6, 2014 by dubiousintent
