Alistair AWOL; Denerim Approach Bugged in Awakenings

Recommended Posts

My problem is that I installed Awakenings and the 1.03, patch, fired up my saved game...and everything worked just fine. I was IMMEDIATELY suspicious. I was at the point in the game, at party camp, when I was going to go to Redcliffe to initiate the war against the darkspawn. Went to Redcliffe, fought a bunch of darkspawn, no problems, lag or slowdown. But then I started talking to Arl Eamon and suddenly Alistair pipes up...BUT ALISTAIR WASN'T THERE. His voiceover and subsequent close captioning worked without a hitch, but he simply wasn't there. No invisible avatar, just AWOL. I thought it might be because of a warpaint mod I installed (gave him a happpening moustache). Removed mod and replayed scene. Again, not there. Spoke to the other Grey Warden (forget his name) in my room, Alistair spoke but still not there. Spent my last night with Morrigan and then found myself at the gates of Denerim after the march cutscene, but wasn't able to track the mouse anywhere and the Grey Warden and Arl Eamon said the same things to me they did before we left Redcliffe. Anyone else encounter this problem? The last time I saw him was after he beheaded Loghain and became king, but this was BEFORE installing Awakenings and the 1.03 patch. Does anyone know what the problem may be? I'm gonna try a rollback real quick (yeah quick HA!) and see if that works.

SERIOUSLY NO ONE CAN HELP ME OUT WITH THIS?! I know that this Alistair not showing up after the landsmeet has been a problem for a number of people; have ANY of you found FIXES for this?! I can't beat the game without Alistair in it to win it; I've already uninstalled the entire game and reinstalled with the 1.02a patch with NO textures that would remotely affect a male human PC. ANYTHING you can offer would be helpful. THANKS!

I figured out the problem, and now I can beat the game. It wasn't Awakenings or the 1.03 patch, it was a mod. The Extra Dog Slot mod to be precise. The mod allows you to have a full party and have your dog as a summons, but it acts and interacts like a fifth party member. I had it originally activated when I went into the Landsmeet, and because Alistair is forced into your party after the landsmeet, the mod thought that Alistair belonged in that slot, but wasn't programmed for it. Which is why Alistair spoke his lines in Redcliffe but wasn't actually present. I uninstalled the EDS mod and WALA, I had Alistair in my party after the landsmeet. I'M NOT KNOCKING THE EDS MOD! When I had it installed and started a new character the programmer actually put a warning that it might break the game at certain points, which it obviously did. I love my Mabari and was excited to have a full party with him in it (he acts just like my pit bull; silly, playful and always wanting attention), but it's better at lower levels anyway, and its a good idea not to use it in any unofficial DLC because it wonks that too. Love the EDS mod but it broke the game so I uninstalled it, but it is fun to use, like I said, at parts of the game where characters are forced in or out of the party, like the Landsmeet, a good time at the Pearl, the Fade, etc. But I'm up and running finally and plan to beat Origins tonight.
