Bizzare Game Behavior

I have seen this game do some really strange things of late. Weapon mods that did not duplicate themselves suddenly duplicating themselves. Installed mods (daZip's) not showing up in inventory or the installed content screen. When I attempt to raise my inventory by using toolcrap, it shows inventory as -1 when it is 80-125, it doesn't matter what it is, it always shows -1 and money shows up as -1 also. The Universal Dye Kit worked flawlessly on my last game but in the one I tried to start last night, I activated it, it raised my level and disappeared?! I haven't been able to get it back and I have uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, rinse and repeat. I tried a new game today and it doesn't even show up in inventory even though it shows installed.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these issues?

Part of the problem would be "too much".

I know that when your character has over 999,000 gold, it will represent as -1 and will give you bugs about spending/receiving money. Based on that, I'm guessing that your inventory issues are related. Most likely the 9999 items mod. Safe range for personal item storage is 999 (and even that can cause lag on lower end systems).

I'd recommend uninstalling the 9999 mod and your other mods that were affected. Create a clean save, then reinstall the inventory items that were affected and see if it works.

Also, are you deactivating your mods before loading the new character? Part of the issue could be the load bug that gets so many people.

Hopefully this helps!

I always uncheck most mods with the Modmanager before I start a new game; I think I can do guided tours of Ferelden should I ever need to

Tried removing the 9999 mod, no effect. I don't really see how that would affect my gold and inventory when I have less than 500 gold and only 5/120 inventory. It also doesn't even begin to explain how that dye kit gave me a level-up and disappeared from my toolbar. Odd thing is, I loaded a save from a previous character's game and it works just fine.

Perhaps my game has been infested by a fade spirit? :woot: Meh, I'll try again tomorrow and not add everything all at once and see if there is some load order to figure out.

Edit: Still no joy...

Removed all DLC that I do not or seldom use. Tried adding the things I do use one at a time and the dye pack is just not showing up in new games anymore. Guess I better stick to the forge and quit wasting my time.

Played Leliana's Song with the 9999 gone and every save for that shows money and inventory at -1 so that mod (9999) doesn't affect that either. Odd thing there is I have edited my inventory before and it worked while the 9999 mod was installed. I successfully edited it to 300 that one time and have been unable to do so since.

Only thing I can think of is when I borked the whole thing with toolcrap and did a complete uninstall and reinstall of everything, something messed up in the install process and is causing these issues. Thing is, the game is more stable than it has ever been so perhaps I should just leave well enough alone and accept the fact that some things just aren't going to work.

Ok, it gets stranger now... I went back and read the readme on the dye kit and it isn't supposed to be added directly to the inventory.

The Universal Dye Kit item will be added to Bodahn's, Yuriah's, and the Quatermaster's store inventories (the Quatermaster in the King's Camp during the day, not after nightfall).

My first clue was when I got to Ostagar  But in the human game I was playing it was directly added and in the CE origin I started it was added as well and that caused the wild goose chase I was on. Still can't explain why it did that or why in the origin it gave me a level up though.

Still no luck with the -1 inventory/gold bug though; guess I am stuck with 125 and my gold changes as it should. Should I just blame toolcrap and get on with life? :whistling:

Yeah.. as the author of that thing, I can honestly say that's REALLY WEIRD. I can't even conceive of a way that it would add something to your inventory off the bat. There's not even any code that I could see doing that by accident somehow.

And the level up thing... wow, neato. My best guess would be if some of the UDK files didnt get fully installed or if there was an issue with ID range conflicts, maybe the game was unable to figure out what special ability the item is supposed to be mapped to and defaulted back to one of the tome abilities (the ones that add talent points, etc.)

So yeah... wery wery interwesting.

That makes sense. Situation: I just re-checked all the boxes in all those DLC's in the first post and reloaded, game hiccups and adds the dye kit, I then used the Beguiler to take my character to lv 30 uber-rogue (I usuallly solo on Nightmare plus so...) and then put on the wedding clothes and attempted to make them un-hideous. Game sees item it cannot recognize, barfs, executes last used command. Did I mention I was in Innodil's pocket plane at the time? :wallbash:
