OK, so i had played Oblivion mod free for awhile, with a disc version. now i have the steam GOTY edition, and failed miserably with modding. I have a brand new top of the line computer with windows 7, so it should be totaly clean of any issues relating ot that sort of thing. SOO i tried installing mods like OBMM and OBSE and some things like human textures and new items. also the leveling NPC restrictor and some environmental things, and deadly reflexes. I looked through the top 100 lists on this site and found some things i liked. What my problem is, is when i installed these things (or thought i did) many of them simply didnt work, and the game crashed several times. I would like to find some mods for gameplay enhancement, items, and graphics enhancements, and just cool mods that make the gameplay more realistic and fun (no god mode stuff) also, mabye some very careful instructions for installing OBMM and OBSE and mods. for instance, i put OBSE in the way the readme said, but it doesnt do anything? and i could never open it? also, i had some issues with compatibility and turning mods on with OBMM. i modded a litle with marrowing, and halo 1, so i know the general principals, but im currently reinstalling the game and want to do it right this time.

Install Steam outside of C:Program Files and UAC monitoring when using Windows Vista or 7. Use C:Games instead. The readme for OBSE has directions for using OBSE with Steam.

My advice is to read some of the pinned topics here in General Mod Talk. If you have not installed Oblivion Mod Manager(OBMM) yet, This is the next item to add to your game, learning how to convert mods you have downloaded into an OMOD will save you many headaches if you do not like the mod and want to remove it. OBMM also has bsa redirection as a form of archive invalidation. Keep a copy of every mod you have downloaded and installed. Create a folder in Downloads called "Oblivion Downloads" and use this folder to store the mods. Make sure you can still play Oblivion after installing a mod or utility. Installing fifty mods before you ever play the game at all is a bad idea.
