Crash on Load- FCOM + More

Hi guys.

I've set up oblivion according to Blade of Mercy's 50_Steps_To_Stable_FCOM+++ and it worked just fine. I installed all mods in order and then activated them all one by one, running the game, saving and quitting each time.

 

This worked great. I was able to play for a couple of hours with no issues. I then added on some more mods... and forgot which ones I added.

Now Oblivion just crashes whenever I try to load a game. Or start a new one.

 

Any idea how I can track down this issue?

Have you rebuilt your bashed patch since adding the mods? I have seen people post load orders that worked with most of your active mods. Do you still have a copy of your BOSS report from sorting your load order, you might need to see if you left out a patch or forgot something.

Please, read ReadMes more carefully in the future. What is your Bashed Patch configuration? Did you read the Bashed Tags Quick Guide on the opening post of the FCOM thread?

What is that MRP stuff? Are you sure those are compatible with FCOM? Where are the Persuasion Overhaul compatibility add-ons for OOO and MMM? Do you have the DR 5 hotfix installed?

Thanks for such a detailed response!

MRP is just "message remover pack". It's a really simple, tiny mod that just gags annoying messages. I doubt that it would cause any issues.

 

I wonder, just what is considered a powerful CPU? Because I thought that my quad-core (yes I know, I know) 2.4GHz Q6600 might be able to handle it, so I installed it.

 

But thanks for pointing out all of that! I'll be sure to correct it tonight (have to go now).

Your CPU can handle FCOM just fine, but with other stuff and using add-ons and not using a spawn reducer it can pose a challenge for many processors. Powerful is relative, so here I am referring to setups that can run FCOM with ease. Quad-cores vary by architecture, and the Q6600 is one of the "older" quad-cores at this point, at least for intense gaming. Do not worry about needing to update or anything. Just be mindful of your specs. Oblivion, especially when modified with mods that add NPCs, is very CPU-intensive. When in doubt, try to cut down on mods that introduce AI packages (i.e., those attached to NPCs/creatures.)

Before a save loads. When it crashes before the main menu is a missing .esm, right?

So what does it mean when it crashes just as you start to load a/start a new game?

I'd shoot for plugin conflicts. Try to regenerate the Oblivion.ini - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=know_how_to#RegenerateTheOblivion.ini

 

Scan your load order for possible sources of conflict. Use Bash's 'Diff masters' function on an older safe to see which mods you've added. The conflict will hopefully be found among those.
