TheEnd1944
I've downloaded the archiveinvalidator thing and I activate it and I try to copy and paste from the zip and or rar files the .ep's, the texture, meshes whatever files and since i have win 7 I merge them, I go to Fallout mod manager, check the damn mod, start the game and it just seems to be with weapons I have this problem I get that god damned square with the exclamation point. Could somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I even went as far to change the security on the data folder. I'm feeling a little pissed off at the past 8 hours I've spent trying to figure out how to make a simple AK 74U show up ingame without the stupid square box and ! or the M1911 or the rest fo the freakin weapons I wanna play with. I will personally kiss the feet of the man (or woman) that can help me solve mt problem tl;dr: I activated the archiveinvalidator program and the (seemingly specifically) weapons mods don't work. I have a hair mod and another weapons mod that work fine. WHY CAN'T THIS ANOMALY BE EXPLAINED D: Please help, Yours very sincerely and respectfully: The End
TheEnd1944
Don't mean to bump my own thread but just before I posted this thread, my textures, sound, video, meshes, etc files were OUTSIDE the data folder (inside the data folder). I was reading the pinned topic on how to install mods and put all the folders inside the data folder and now my game won't even launch it just says "Fallout 3 has stopped working" Sigh... EDIT:I took the aforementioned folders out and now it works. Mind you still have the problems with the square boxes and exclamation points LE SIGH. pkleiss
A red exclamation point in the game means that the game could not find the model file (nif). So, most likely you have not extracted the files from your mod into the proper folders. You mentioned that since you had windows 7, you merged them. I'm not really sure what you did, but that doesn't sound right. The ESP/ESM for the mod needs to go into the \Data folder and meshes need to go into a sub-folder under \Data\meshes and the textures need to go into a sub-folder under \Data\textures. If you post a link to the exact mod you are talking about, I can look to see exactly what is necessary for you. No feet kissing required.

For example there's this mod, the the FN SCAR where the SCAR can be found outside of Doc church's clinic in Megaton, it shows up as a red box with the ! link: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5171 When i go to bethesda games or whatever in my program files there is a data folder, I double click on that and there are \data\data, \data\textures, \data\meshes etc, I'M curious though, do i put the .esp's and .esm IN the \data\data folder or just the \data folder? I tried, as I mentioned before, putting the textures, sounds etc in the \data\data folder (the data folder INSIDE the main data folder) and it didn't work,I took em out and it my game would play (but still with the aforementioned square boxes) EDIT: Mind you that's not just the only wep mod that doesn't work, there's one called the Desert Dragon and that one doesn't work, or the 25mm anti-aircraft minigun thing, that doesn't work. A majority of stuff I've downloaded doesn't work for me, aside from the few things that do
pkleiss
Unfortunately, not every modder makes it easy to unpack their files. This mod happens to be one of them. For example, when I make an archive for my mods, I put all of the files into a folder structure similar to what the game uses and then create the archive. In this way, all the user has to do is extract all the files to the data folder and everything else will get put in its proper place. The FN Scar does not do this. Okay, the normal fallout folder structure is super important. If its not followed you got the red exclamation points and glitching textures that you are experiencing. Well, you are not seeing the flickering textures because you are not even getting the models to load. Your folders should look like this: Fallout\Data\meshesFallout\Data\texturesFallout\Data\Sounds There can be more, but that takes care of 99% of it. There can also be sub-folders under these last folders listed. For example, I put all my meshes in a sub-folder under meshes that is the name of the mod, so for example, if my mod was called 'MyMod', my folder structure would look like this: Fallout\Data\meshes\MyModFallout\Data\textures\MyModFallout\Data\Sounds So, for your FN SCAR issue, you need to get rid of that second \data folder and any sub-folders it contains. Then you need to open the archive and double click on the 'SCAR' folder (which shouldn't be there). Then highlight all of the files / folders in there. (there are three: Textures, meshes & FN_SCAR.esp) then use the 'extract to' feature and extract all of them to your \Fallout\Data\ folder. When you are done, you should not have a second \data folder with anything in it. I hope this helps...

Ok, I'll get rid of the second data folder, I'll give the FN SCAR one a try and elt you know if it worked, thanks for being with me and ebing timely with your responses, crap has been driving me MAD! EDIT:It seems I MAY have resolved my issue, I was using winrar and just dragging and dropping, well I took the FN scar and another mod for an AK 74U and just dragged and dropped AND unzipped(the FN scar) into the appropriate folders and they work! However, I may need to REDO ALL my mods I have installed by using winzip instead of winrar, if I have any more problems I'll post. Thanks so much and please be on standby incase my luck runs out LOL
