DA2 hopes and expectations

Now that Brokenergy has posted this thread that DA2 is coming soon, Im starting to think what will be in the game. What do you think/hope?

I belive that we will know the story about Morrigan, Flemeth and her unborn child. I also hope to see more of the Quinari, Golems and no more darkspawn (except armored ogre alpha  ) And as the game is called DRAGON age, I expect to see way more dragons than we did in the earlier game. I also hope for a different class system where there is no primary classes, just the spells. So that you can be a real arcane warrior or a shapeshifter with a pet

BioWare's DA2 page says:

Experience the epic sequel to the 2009 Game of the Year from the critically acclaimed makers of Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2. You are one of the few who escaped the destruction of your home. Now, forced to fight for survival in an ever-changing world, you must gather the deadliest of allies, amass fame and fortune, and seal your place in history. This is the story of how the world changed forever. The legend of your Rise to Power begins now.

Key Features:

* Embark upon an all-new adventure that takes place across an entire decade and shapes itself around every decision you make.

* Determine your rise to power from a destitute refugee to the revered champion of the land.

* Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior.

* Go deeper into the world of Dragon Age with an entirely new cinematic experience that grabs hold of you from the beginning and never lets go.

* Discover a whole realm rendered in stunning detail with updated graphics and a new visual style.

Not a damn thing about who you will be fighting. Looks like the classes remain though.

I just hope they won't do what they did with Mass Effect. Strip 95% of RPG aspects and replace with FPS/simple action aspects.

Mss Effect 2 is great, but it's because of story and dialogues, not much o a RPG in anyway. Where ME1 was.

You think we´ll get rid of the lame auto attack system? Like oblivion or aoc? Im hoping for a aoc style where you have to think where to hit to deal more damage and with ranged weapons you actually have to aim and hit yourself.

All I hope is that you can import your character from Origins. There seems to be a lot of unfinished business with the warden

Edit: Maybe not... but one one question remains; Who is Hawke?

The following insights have been gleaned from the postings by the BioWare crowd on the "official" forums (and a few other places, like interviews at E3, Game Informer ing News, etc.)

1. Story (and therefore PC) is NOT a direct continuation from DA:O/A

2. PC is a non-Noble Human (ONLY)

3. PC is named "Hawke"

4. PC can be either gender

5. PC was "around" during period of DA:O/A ("is a Blight survivor"), so is NOT the OGB resulting from the DR (if you chose to hold it)

6. PC is not ANY person/role seen, mentioned, or hinted at in DA:O/A (I infer to mean that PC is not a GW)

7. Events are NOT set in Ferelden

8. A huge tease by Chris Priestly (BioWare moderator on forums) regarding some released concept art indicates there will be a character we'll "recognize", in one form or another. (The early money is on Oghren! :P )

Ummm  reading what's being said here, I don't think I'll rush to buy it. I think I'll sit back and see what's on offer and if they do get rid of auto attack I definitely won't be buying it, don't get me wrong I love a good scrap that is a bit challenging but to have to think about it too much, things like taking aim :yucky: naaa can't be bothered.

It does sound as if everything you did in DAO counts for nothing, you will be leaving your romances behind your party members behind and you certainly won't be the 'hero of Fereldan'.

As it says -

Shame really I was hoping for a good trilogy like the old days

Thandal - it sounds like we don't get much choice re our character, not even to choose our own names and if we can't have our choice of old party members I personally don't want to see or hear from any of them. Actually it sounds more like a bigger version of these rubbish DLCs they are churning out.

If this is the future of fantasy RPGs, no choice just do as your told I hope some other company will start doing something along the lines of the old D&Ds so I can kick BW to the curb.

It's really far to early to start making judgments of any kind, though I concede the point about not being able to play as a dwarf or elf.

Well, I disagree about the DLCs being rubbish (except for "The One That Must Not Be Named". :P )

I enjoyed Leliana's Song immensely, and think Warden's Keep was a worthwhile addition. Maybe RtO was only so-so, and TSP definitely should have been built-in from the start. Which, while it may make EA overly greedy, but doesn't make the DLC any less great! (The FeastDay Fiasco was essentially free, so I don't consider it anything more than a simple-minded way to implement the "runscript zz_addapproval" console command!)

But to your main point: I think several things are going on that drive the game (and not just this game) franchise in the direction DA2 seems to be heading. The sheer number of possible "realities" at the end of DA:O (and by extension, DA:A) makes continuing any of them (or more accurately, ALL of them, from the devs' POV) directly in a coherent, internally consistent fashion, an almost overwhelmingly complex undertaking.

By forcing a total shift of protagonist/location/motivation, they (and we) are not bound in the imagination by the situations and expectations created in the previous saga. We now have an opportunity to experience a whole new adventure "with fresh eyes".

Plus, by limiting the PC to just a male-or-female of one name and one backstory, the PC can be fully voiced (which may-or-may-not be a good thing, depending on the particular VAs slected!) and allow for more complete integration of that character into the rest of the world being created. This could result in an even more immersive experience (we can hope!)

I, for one, having been enthralled (pun intended) by DA:O/A, have the highest expectations for DA2! I believe that the creative team behind this effort believes in it at least as much as any of us, and will work at least as hard this time around to ensure we have a great time as the story continues. (Full disclosure: I used the "Shop" link on the Nexus Files site to help support this place and pre-ordered DA2 about 5 minutes after it became possible to do so at noon EDT today.)
