Spell Shaders Causeing Crash?

I'm not sure what i did but now every time I cast certain spells the game crashes.Or if a spell is cast on me that leaves an aura around my character it crashes, if i jump into any fire source the game crashes. i assume this has to do with spell shaders. Oddly, when i cast cerain spells like Heal Major wounds or Push (from the spell compendium mod) or a lightning attack spell it doesent crash. I havent done any extensive testing on this because starting oblivion over and over again is very dull.

Any thoughts on whats wrong and how to fix it?

I'm having the same problem. Any game saviors with any idea and advice to help out, please? I've tried everything, (uninstalled & reinstalled video driver, the game itself, NET, DirectX, Sound driver) What's left now is the Windows  . I'm using WinXP Pro SP2. My specs are pretty decent to that of course met all of the system requirement. Thank you guys.

I don't know much about such things, but from the first post's description, it sounds like the problem is with particle shaders, rather than surface shaders.

Thanks for the idea. hmm.. Shader-related problem... even after reinstalled the game and those drivers.. o_O   ...my graphic card is dumping me?? ... but then it went fine with other games though (FEAR, BF, ...) I'll search harder. Thanks again.

Which brand and model of video card are you guys using..?

The diagnosis is somewhat different, depending on whether it's an ATI or nVidia card.

If it's an ATI card, this sounds like a well-known problem with RADEON cards and fortunately, there is a work-around for it.

If it's an nVidia GeForce card, the problem is often fixed through the advanced settings in the card's Forceware control panel. You should be able to get a lot of good ideas from the following article:

Either way, we need to know *specifically* what hardware you folks are running.
