Just a few questions

Hi. I’m not new to fallout 3 but I am new to having it for the PC. I played the hell out of it for the 360 (even then I’m sure there are a ton of things I’m yet to see). After playing oblivion for the PC and loving most the mods, I started thinking about getting fallout too and now I am with all the DLC.

Guess that’s enough of a life story heh.

So first thing I wanted to ask is. Is there any way to turn off body’s getting blown to little tiny bits? I didn’t mind too much but it would just be nice to not see it all the time.

Next would be that I’m looking to start planning out what mods I’m going to use better than I did for oblivion, for the first week or so I didn’t play it that much just searched for mods and worked at getting them to work.

So any tips on good mods to look at would be most helpful.

I like all sorts, new quests, new areas, new clothes, ones that improve how player characters and npcs look. Oh and good Companions.

Will I be able to alt+tab? I like chatting to friends on msn and all that and oblivion wouldn’t let me tab that easy.

Thanks for reading! ;D

well, i think i can try and help you

first of all, about the bodies being blown up, yes, there is a way to prevent this from happening, though it will take time to do

i just know about one way to do it, though i guess there are others

my way is basically this: you go into the GECK, make a new .esp, let's say you call it NoExplosions

now, you make it your active .esp, so that all the work will be saved to it

then, you go to the weapons section, click on a weapon, and change the critical effect to "Dismember only", so that it will only dismember, and not cause exploding bodies

the problem is, you are going to have to do this for every weapon, or at least to all the weapons you plan on using

it's a long process, true, but it does the trick

now, about getting the best mods, i would recommend three ways of searching

the first is going to the Top 100 page, and looking at the mods there, which are the most loved mods so far

i would recommend using the options on the side (best in last two weeks, best ever etc)

the second way is to go into whatever catagory you're interested in, and organizing the mods to either most endorsed, or most downloads, in a descending order

this way, you will see the best mods of every catagory (well, you might miss some of the mods that you will like, hence the last way)

the final way is according to what you really like

basically, if you know you want something, search for it, and try to find mods relavent to your liking

and on the final question, i don't think you can use alt+tab. i can't say for sure, but it does cause problems with my game, so use at your own risk.....

i hope this helps you

and if you want a list of mods, you can PM me what you like, and i will try to make a good list for you

Yes. You can either download the couple of gore no more mods, (search up gore) or manualy remove the gore from the game.

here are the two most endorsed gore removers i could find

i don't know how well these work, but i'll give them to you anyhow

Gore No More and Gore Tweaks

if you do try either of these, please tell me what you think....

i think i might remove exploding bodies for my game as well, hence me asking to see if these work well

Oh the “Gore Tweaks” one sounds good and ill give that one a go once the game gets here. The other seems to take all gore away? so I probably wouldn’t use that. As I didn’t mind most of the gore, just body’s going boom.

No tabbing makes me sad but I can live with that.

Thank you both. :D

Sadly alt + tab seems to cause my game to freeze 8/10 times and I forget if You can play FO 3 in windowed mode. A small bit of advice also make sure to get FOSE and FOMM as they will help alot.
this link is to a series of videos on Youtube that really helped me alot in getting started. Best of luck to you and also make sure to get FO3 Edit. the 3 utilities I mention are covered in the video series also.
