VileTouch
Hey i was wondering why every day in oblivion was exactly the same as all the ones before. there are no special days!just wake up, kill some creatures, crawl a couple dungeons, start a quest, train some skills, make potions, sell stuff, buy ingredients, and that is that!... i would like to see something special for a change! At least one day in the year where everything and everyone have a different mood, different clothes, different topics, i don't know... special! for instance, cities could have special decorations, banners, statues could be decorated too. houses could have christmas trees or jack-o-lanterns in halloween, NPC could use costumes on halloween night, and even some of them could play trick or treat. there could be a costumes parties in some palaces. hosted by the counts where all nobility are invited. there could be an easter bunny npc that hide chocolate eggs all over cyrodiil once a year. and give clues as of where to look for them. there could be a red santa helmet. for npc to wear on christmas, and christmas trees on all houses, people could exchange gifts on valantines day, and have flower vendors on the street for npc to buy and give to their loved ones.... oh well... there could be so many things i just can't mention them all! my sugested holidays are:-------------------------new year's eve (we could have a fireworks show in the imperial city)akaviri new year (celebrated amongst altmer)mardi gras (celebrated amongst breton)Valantine's DaySt.Alessia's day (st. patrick's day)Rain's Hand Fools day (april fool's)Midyear's day (st. johns' day)Independence Day (after main quest)Frosfall Fest (octoberfest, celebrated amongst nords)halloweenRamadan (celebrated amongst bosmer)(...or maybe kahjit??)Thanksgiving (celebrated amongst dunmer)Hannukah (celebrated amongst orcs)(...or maybe argonians? or bosmer?) christmas (it would be beautiful if snow fell all over cyrodiil at least once a year)------------------- while there ARE some lore holidays, if you're not a lore fan, you would never notice them. in fact, there is no sign whatsoever that those holidays are being held at all, there is no celebration, nothing changes. so my idea is a wish to mark some days as special and make it obviously visible what is going on this day. so... why now? we're starting July, and i think that if someone likes the idea and want to implement it, they would have plenty of time to start working and have a release ready for this christmas. (that's my wish for a christmas gift) every holiday could be a separate ESP as some could grow VERY big, such as christmas. making massive changes all over cyrodiil. I can't think of anything else for now. if you want to know more about lore holidays you could check the UESP Wiki article on the subject

VileTouch
There's a bunch of Tamrielic holidays; no need to use RL ones. http://morningstarlady.livejournal.com/17361.html uhu... that's a quote from UESP Wiki, same one i posted. but my concern is this. have you EVER noticed anything different one of these days? even if a slightly different comment from someone? no, right? i'm talking about christmas! (gingle bells, gingle bells) come on!... wouldn't you love to enter the market district one day and find it totally decorated for christmas? and you ask a guard what the heck is going on and he answers: -Merry Christmas, citizen. since the emperor is now dead, the grinch decree has been lifted and we are now allowed to celebrate christmas and eat gingerbread with hot chocolate. stay out of trouble and have a happy holidays. then you walk down the street and hear the people greet each other: Merry crhristmas dunmer, what's the news on the other provinces?, except the cranky orcs that hate christmas like the ogres! (shrek anyone?) -Merry crhistmas! -GO AWAY!
VileTouch
Hold on. Did you just make the Orcs Jewish? Are you being anti-Semitic? HAHAHAHAHA! well, it could be argonians, but i think the cold blooded lizards (edit2:that's the argonians)would not care for any special day.(edit2 continued: and no, i'm not being anti...anything) besides, it's just an idea!, it could be some other holiday if you don't like that one. something on your mind, goldenrod? :whistling: edit: oh and according to that just made the bosmer muslims?? oops!... well now that i think of it, it would be better if the kahjit were kind of muslims... it would fit in their "middle east" desert.... idunno... just thinking! How about this one? SoT Holidays oh i didn't know that one! great! will give it a try! although... the author says it's a small mod so we may not expect visually themed holidays... just a notice it's being held and some perks for the day.... but it's a start! VileTouch
we could even have a random themed encounter some of these days...like fighting a giant gingerbread monster on christmas! or being assaulted by a horde of undead on halloween... or better yet, have a serial killer on the loose on halloween and have the player hunt him! i don't know... just brainstorming here. 99luftbalons
I do think holidays would be cool, however, I would much prefer lore holidays. I don't understand the point of throwing in real holidays when Tamriel already has such rich ones that fit with the setting. I mean, why would Tamriel's races be Christian/Jewish/Muslim when those gods don't even exist there? Plus, who doesn't want to see Saturalia festivals? I think those would be fun. Sadly, I don't have any idea how to do all of this, so I'm just tossing around ideas too.

I mean, why would Tamriel's races be Christian/Jewish/Muslim when those gods don't even exist there? Plus, who doesn't want to see Saturalia festivals? I think those would be fun. Sadly, I don't have any idea how to do all of this, so I'm just tossing around ideas too. well yes, you are right, i wouldn't dare say otherwise. problem is.. there is no lore christmas... now that's really bad... i mean... the idea behind all these festivities is not the actual celebration or worship of one religion or another. but about a seasonal change of appearance, decoration, clothing, dialogs, etc. with which every player feel identified with. the prime seasonal overhaul would be christmas, since it's celebrater everywhere in one way or another.problem with that, is that christmas as we know it, is christian holiday... then came vallantines day. which while it's a pagan celebration converted to christian... it is as we know it now. so on and so forth most of the holidays i suggested in the original post were christian holidays. but i did not want to discriminate anyone. or look... biased or unfair. so i suggested some others... a good example is the akaviri new year... it would be cool to have two new year holidays, besides, chinese celebrate it in a rather particular way, that i thought interesting to implement. the others could be probably mixed and matched with the lore holidays... no problem with that, as long as there is a visually obvious change in the world that make you crave for the next year to come so you can watch it, and take part in it again!... that's the whole point behind my idea. besides, i bump this thread because i have found something very very interesting for all of you that enjoy and expect christmas! I don't really know if it's on the nexus, for i found this browsing PES. and i have to leave now so, no time to search for it.. will edit later these two mods are awesome! can't wait to have this all over cyrodiilCloud Ruler Christmas and Christmas in Bruma
