Hashir
m0rnin all, I am coming across an extremely infuriating problem. I reinstalled Oblivion today, or more precisely, yesterday, the days blur together for me thanks to the insomnia, hah. After reinstalling, because some mod overloads and issues many months back had stalled my gaming experience, I now discover that Oblivion runs NOT AT ALL. I try patchings, nothing seems to work. The only major difference to my system is of course, my new video card. I was running an ATi "something" previously, I am currently running an nVidia GTX 260. Oblivion, Vanilla, out of the box ( Collectors Edition, from back in the day it came out, I prize my "golden" Septim!).. Is crashing for me. Right when the Bethesda logo shows up, I get "Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" pop up from Windows XP, 32bit. I am going to try updating my graphics cards drivers, have not done that in awhile, but I fear this will not solve the problem. Banging my head against the wall here. This is something that makes me really, really infuriated, I just cannot understand why this is happening now? Anybody, Azura? SAVE ME!!!!
Tomlong54210
...sounds like the insufficient hardware warning. Please, post your Dxdiag - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=know_how_to#PostYourDxdiag
Hashir
Workaround: I did a search before, just got back and gave it a try. The search told somebody else with similar issues to goto My Documents, My Games, Oblivion, and delete the Oblivion configuration file. I tried this. It seems to have worked. Will post again if it creates more issues. Something to do with the default config settings somewhere, somehow, cause MDK to my game. All better now... I can now rest at peace with the Nine... =)
Tomlong54210
Regenerating the Oblivion.ini is often the right place to start. I missed the "reinstall" part of your post. One of the most common user errors is to forget to regenerate the Oblivion.ini, since Oblivion does not remove it when the game is uninstalled. Glad you found your fix!- Tomlong54210
