Downloads failing

I have been using Nexus for a number of years and recently it has become unusable for me. Previously I could download via NMM or manually and there would be no problem. Now however, using the latest version of NMM, it will starts downloads @ 400-600 kbs, but will the download will freeze after 10 Mb or so, eventually showing 'incomplete status'. Clicking pause and then resume restarts the download but this really isn't practical for 1 Gb+ texture packs! Is this an intended new "feature"? The old system worked so well from my perspective, it may have been a bit slower, but at least you could actually get a file downloaded. I get a similar result with manual downloads, get about 10 Mbs then freezing. Can anyone shed light on my difficulties?
