joemodda
Hello. Ever since I finished Lost Spires, my game has become quite unstable. First time I experienced the problem was during last quest on Lost Spires. I had just "escaped" after my third attempt and just when I decided to quicksave the game, it crashes on me.Boot the game up and tried to load my crashed save, but that leads me to the corruption error message. So I load my last stable game (in the middle of the climax of Lost Spires), use console command to complete the quest, and use a teleportation spell to get out of there. So now I decide to make a "testing" save to assess what seems to cause my game crashing. Pressing the quicksave button leads to a corrupt game. Also, entering any building leads to a game crash. At first I suspected the autosave feature was the cause of this; I toggled all the autosave options off to see if that was the problem.Well, turning off autosave worked, but my game still crashes when I try to enter a building. Areas I entered that would normally save (like town gates and Imperial districts) loads finely, but when I try to enter ANY buildings, the game crashes. And perhaps last to my problems, saving manually sometimes crashes my game. I've been doing a bit of research, and according to some places on the internet, my save files are "corrupted," that is, they are infected with some kind of disease that render the files unstable.A possible cause that leads to save corrution is constant quicksaving (which, I'll admit, my finger always reaches for the F5 key every 30 seconds or so).I'm not sure how quicksaving damages your file, but I read that it's notorious for causing damaged saves. Can anyone explain why it's dangerous to use quicksave? I'm not sure what to do at this point. I've tried the renaming the quicksave.bak trick, but that doesn't work. My last stable file is only about 40 hours of gameplay away from my current saves. I really do NOT want tostart from there, but I read that this is the only way of correcting this mistake. So besides revoking about 40 hours of gameplay, is there anything I can do to restabalize my save files? It's such a shame. I feel that I have only started playing this game, and now, it's all going to hell already. :(
yeldarb
You may have a load order or mod conflict which COULD be fixed with OBMM,BOSS, and Wrye Bash. Get away from using quicksaves on a regular basis,an autosave is almost as bad because an already existing problem will get carried on into the next save. Today I was doing a quest for Integration the Stranded Light and had a corrupt quicksave. All I did was help somone at lunch (why I quicksaved) and restarted my game later on. The autosave from entering a dungeon caused the corruption because it did not register my characters entry into the dungeon!
Tomlong54210
Oblivion's Autosave and quicksaves are known for becoming corrupted. Just do not use them. If you still want that functionality install Streamline. You should rollback to an earlier save. If you are not good about keeping a healthy number of saves, turn on SL's auto-save feature.
