Uploading files from DLCs?

Hey guys, I have a question that's got me pretty stumped.

I'm about to go through all of the armors that I retextured for myself and release them on Nexus. One of them is the Throwdown Armor from the Pitt. Usually it seems that when people upload files from the DLC's it's done in such a way that the downloader has to actually have the DLC to use the mod--like a retexture that only includes the textures so you'd still need the original meshes, or a mesh replacer that still requires the original textures, etc.

When I retexured the Throwdown armor I had to edit the .nif to make it look right, so if I wanted to upload it to Nexus I would be including both the textures and the meshes--so it's possible for someone who doesn't even have the DLC could use it, which I feel probably violates some rule or copyright law or something. I thought about putting the armor, say, somewhere inside the Pitt itself so you would definitely have to go there to retrieve it, but I'd still basically be providing both parts of the armor and anyone who knows how to use GECK could access it.

Any thoughts/insight on this? Am I making it into a bigger deal than it actually is, or should I not bother uploading it, lest I get a letter at my house letting me know I'm in trouble for distributing material that was supposed to be purchased?

This is from Bethesda, they do not want mods that use any resources from DLC to be released unless they require the DLC to be installed to work. So having them retrieve it from the Pitt isn't enough If they can remove the pitt and still use it.

Including Pitt.esm in the list of required masters on your esp is enough to satisfy this, is it not?

You know, I hadn't even thought of that--derp! Seems like that would satisfy the requirements, unless there's some other loophole or rule that I don't know about. :)

I'm wondering that myself now.. I stick all my armors in grayditch, and require the master file for whatever DLCs I use. But if I did something like your case, where I included textures and meshes, someone with the ability could take it and use a DLC armor without the DLC. I think that's more on them than on me or Nexus, but hey, Nexus has lots of goofy rules these days

Hrm :| Now I'm all paranoid. I think I'll just not release it. It's not exactly the most STUNNING RETEXTURE EVAR, so nobody is really missing out on anything special. I'll just stick with the gut feeling of "If you're not sure if it's allowed, it probably isn't".

Hopefully bben46 or another mod comes back to clarify for us.

Maybe if we offer them bacon.

Quick, I'll grab candles and incense and Other Things That Smell Good

You grab the Athame and other Pointy Objects and we'll do this properly.

We seem to be spiraling off-topic at an alarming rate. I can't even use "bump" as an excuse. Let's be BFFs.
