spacemanDOUG
Hi, just wondering what the deal is with putting scopes on weapons that don't have them in game. In the GECK there's a section under the 'Art and Sound' tab whilst editing weapons that has a checkbox labelled 'has a scope'. Under that there's a box to point to a .nif file. I presume that's the scope. For instance when editing the infiltrator, the box is checked and the target .nif file is "Interface\HUD\Scope01.NIF". The only problem is that when I search for Scope01.nif on my PC I can't find it, I can't even find the interface or HUD folders. So I'm asking whether it's possible to put scopes on weapons like Assault rifles or .32 pistols? If I can make a Sniper fire like a minigun I would think this would be possible. So can anybody help me? P.S. I do have the WMK mod but I don't like to use it because it doesn't work amazingly with weapons I'm messing around with. pkleiss
You have to extract the scope nif from the meshes BSA file before you can find it in the file chooser. Doing so will add the 'iron sights' effect to the weapon, but your weapon will not actually have a scope on it in the game. All that does is add the scope targeting visual when using iron sights. spacemanDOUG
Ah damn I was hoping that was going to be an easy way to get scopes. Thanks for the reply anyway. Are there any other ways to fit a silencer or scope from a sniper etc. onto a weapon that isn't made to have them? Since WMK can do it, would I be able to take that mod apart and fit scopes to models manually?
pkleiss
If you aren't already familiar with 3D modeling, then there is a very large learning curve ahead of you. You don't even do this type of thing with mods. You have to modify the model files themselves. You can 'rip' the scope off of one weapon and place it onto another one. But I really don't know enough to explain it better than that. You would need a few tools such as Blender - a free 3D modeling program, and NifSkope - a Nif editor. spacemanDOUG
That's going to be too difficult for me I think, I'll just leave my weapons as they are, thanks loads for the help anyway, really appreciated.

I've managed to add scopes to weapons using the geck and some files from WMK mod. After that I needed to make my guns aim down the scope when aiming, I extracted Scope01.nif from the 'fallout 3 - meshes.bsa', I put it in a Fallout 3\Data\meshes\interface\hud folder and chose that file under the 'has a scope' option and now when I aim in game I get a nice scope cross-hair.
