Dragon Age: Origins... for my 11 year old nephew.

Hullo thar.

 

I searched first, being proper forum etiquette and everything, and found another thread titled "Modesty Mod". The OP, however, lacked clarity and reason. I'm gonna go into a little more detail in this request.

 

My 11 year old nephew LOVES Dragon Age. The problem is, I can't let him play it all the way through. I've got him outside the Circle Tower because I know his very Baptist mother would have a fit if she knew anything about the content of the game, so I'm subtly hindering his progression. If someone would be so kind (and sensible) as to come up with a mod that gives the Desire Demon (and the Lady of the Forest) at least as much covering as a disrobed Leliana/Morrigan/Wynne/etc., that'd be grand.

 

Atop that, a mod that disables the in-game 'romance' would also be great, but I don't consider that to be too big of a deal, if he could even find it. He never even talks to his companions, he doesn't use gifts and he rarely even visits camp. lol.

Really? Your issue with an 11 yr old playing this game is the brief contextually appropriate nudity and consenting mature relationships between adults? I guess the decapitations and impalements and arterial blood spray are all perfectly acceptable then? ... Seriously, US social mores are f'd up. Unless you're just trolling, but anyway.

 

All right, now that I've had a chance to vent, I unfortunately can't actually help you out. I've seen the same request before but, as far as I know, there are no mods that patch up the desire demon or lady of the forest for modesty.

 

That said, it would not be particularly difficult to do, depending on your artistic skill level. Or even if you just wanted to slap some black censor bars on there. Just grab this mod to see exactly which DDS textures need to be changed, and then use the GIMP and the nVidia DDS tools to add more clothing or w/e to those textures, then toss them back into your override dir. This can be done without having to touch the toolset.

another thing you may want to consider requesting is some dialogue/voice over removal/tweaks

 

there's quite a few other things that you may want to worry about if sexual content concerns you, including rape, torture, adultery, moriggans robe, party members requesting sexual acts from each other & the player character, child killing, slavery & perhaps a few other things i can't think off straight from the top of my head

 

if you have no luck finding someone to match your request - using the aforementioned tools you could simply create an all-black texture & name it identical to the texture the model uses

 

desire demon uses cn_bdy_suca_ prefix

lady of the forest uses cn_bdy_lofa_ prefix

 

these only affect the body, so the face will remain in tact while the body will be completely pitch-black

recommend using 32x32 texture resolution @ dxt1 compression so it uses literally no resources

 

recommend following ESRB game rating guidelines with M/adult rated titles in the future

I'll explain the logic for those of you who can't be bothered to give it a thought.

 

First of all, I already described that his parents are very traditional southern Baptist Christians. Don't know how you overlooked that. Maybe it's just that I grew up in that kind of church, too, and I know what that means. I maintain my beliefs, but I've moved on to, shall we say, a more rational, sensible place of reason when it comes to these things. So, no, I don't mind him seeing the so-called "violence" myself. Blood is blood, he's seen it before irl and in games, on medical documentaries and so on, and the effect in Dragon Age is so absurd it's comical.. -_-

 

Anyway, here's where it should make sense between wanting to cover up the everything-but-nipple show a bit... the average kid (especially this one) isn't going to go out and imitate his elven assassin's spinning decapitation trick anytime soon (he plays a mage, btw). He is, however, very likely to want more alone time than usual, so to speak. I don't care about that, personally, but if word got back to his parents about this particular content, there'd be hell to pay (figuratively, of course ;p), and it's the most likely part of the game to be talked about and overheard or worse, seen by one of his sisters and reported. Oy. -_-;

 

Mock if you want, not like I didn't expect it after reading that first thread.

I'd rather he not have to stop playing the game, is all. This is the only thing stopping me from letting him finish the story. I personally think all the character interactions and the overall morality of the story are good for him. I learned a bit from RPGs growing up myself, and I find Dragon Age to be very real in the "how people behave" department. Even if the real world, unfortunately, has far more Morrigans than Lelianas or Alistairs or Duncans. Heck, even Sten had his upside in his impossible grief over what he'd done.

 

Ah, well. If noone can create something... 'elegant' to solve this little issue, I'll just have to hack it up a bit myself. I just suck with textures. lol.

I didn't buy it for him to play at his place. He only gets to play it when he visits with his 2 older sisters. :P

I think the content is aimed at teens, and I understand the want to cover up the bodies or make the romancing more platonic for children. But I think Bioware would have to do that on their end, and I don't think this is the type of game that would or should ever be toned down like a Nintendo game. Even though I would like a Happily Ever After for my character, I would have to only be content to imagining it and writing it.

As long as the boy has fun playing though I think that is all that matters. And you could only hope he is too young to understand the romance lol.

I remember when I was little being told you were pretty or thinking of liking a boy made me blush so bad!

we get the logic (you don't want your underage nephew getting the wrong idea about women, or sumthin), what we don't get is the *edit* who think the naked body is something to be reviled while it's perfectly fine to see someone shoot/stab/decapitate/fireball someone into little bitty gibblets..
