Irritating Background Noise

Sound familiar?

Okay, bad joke. When I'm wandering around the game world I can hear an obnoxious thumping noise in the background, sounds kind of like cannon fire from a distance. This happens everywhere I go but it stops when I open the inventory or the options menu. I had this problem a few years ago too and I seem to recall solving it by turning off OBSE, but I'd rather fix the problem without disabling half the mods on my list. Anyone know what's going on?

*EDIT*

Just realized it also happens when you use manually-triggered scripts. Definitely something to do with OBSE.

Wow, that's got to be annoying. I have no idea what the issue could be, but I wanted to mention that since obviously a ton of people use OBSE without problem, it's possible that it isn't OBSE itself causing it, but one particular mod you use combined with OBSE.

What I mean is, you may be able to run 87 different OBSE-dependent mods without a sound, but then you add Mod X and suddenly every single OBSE mod that runs is causing the cannonfire experience. If that's the case, you may be able to fix it by checking out which mods you run that use OBSE, then disabling them one at a time until you find the culprit. A least that way it'd only mean getting rid of one mod once you figure out which one, and not half your mod list.

It's a pain in the arse to go down the list unchecking mods and restarting your game, I know... so let's see if anybody else responds and has a better idea as to the problem. If not, well, at least it's something to try.

Edit: You don't run COBL by any chance? Check out the comments on this thread (do a browser Find for "thump") and see if that could be your issue?
